It varies a bit from luthier to luthier.
More influence on the price from labour costs than materials though:
- bound necks will cost more than unbound;
- set or through-necks will cost more than bolt-ons;
- maple boards will cost more than rosewood;
- some luthiers might be willing to save you a little by shimming the nut, others will only replace;
- a badly worn board with divots takes more work to prep.
And yeah, it can cost as much as a cheap guitar, but given a good guitar and good fretwork, the new frets can last up to 15 years (or the rest of your life if the frets are stainless).
Hahah my board is bound, set neck and rosewood, so ill save in the fact that its rosewood ?
yeah, i think ill go Stainless steel, its a one time cost, but with a right setup and fret levelling, i wont have to worry about frets being an issue again
any good luthiers or techs you've dealt with? Im thinking of going to Grant Fouche as Ive just heard good things regarding setups etc
