It was a really good show, we were right in front, just to the left.
My girlfriend caught me one of Hetfield's picks he used during the night ? Yes, that is why I love her...
I also caught a few other unused ones (bass + guitar) that they threw into the crowd at the end of the
show, but that one is different from the rest.

Loved the show and the chance to again see a bunch of cool guitars....
The "chrome boy" snakebite played by Hetfield was a disappointment, but man seeing that Kenny Lawrence Explorer again in real life was awesome. That, the Flying V's, the Jackson Rhoads and the black LP custom made me remember why I am such a Metallica fanboy..

Battery, Master of Puppets, Am I Evil, Fight Fire With Fire, Creeping Death, Sad But True were the highlights for me!

It truly rocked!!!!
But one thing I cannot possibly grasp (and it's not the first time this has happened) is when some concert goer(s) try to make trouble. Jeesh!!! Some people should just understand that they're a menace to society and crawl into a hole!
Case in point: 3 songs into Metallica's set some shirtless backwards-nike-cap wearing douche squeezes his way in front of us (middle of an already cramped of GC). Tried to get a mosh going. First he bumped my wife, and eventually me and another friend. I decided F this guy and shoved him as hard as I could forward and shouted "F-off!!!!" to make a point for his tiny brain to grasp we were not "down with that, yo!". But, cease he would not. So upon his personal one-man mosh coming our way again, spilling my cherished beer all over the place, my buddy grabbed the guy and politely asked him to please stop, or take his "mosh" somewhere else.
So, "Fred Durst" starts his crap. "So what you gonna do?!", "Do you think you're tough?!"...you get it....
My friend kept being polite telling the guy he's stepping on our feet, bumping our wives around and just overall killing the vibe in our section. But cap-boy kept at his shit. Now, "Fred" is a short guy. Me and my buddy, around 6 feet. My buddy ended up telling the guy to bugger off as well, before I saw "Freddy" getting really agro and was getting ready for this to turn bad, so I stepped in and told him if he keeps up his shit all of us in that section will commence beating the living shit out of him. Then, another random dude and his buddies chimed in and told him the same. HAHAHAHAHA!! "Cappie" was standing in front of us for the remainder of the show, completely static and not even clapping slightly. Get some, a$$hole!
Friends in the general standing area also told me two dudes went at it badly, and one dude messed a drunk annoying dude up badly....knocked him out and just left him there lying on the floor. LEKKER!
Anyway, still, Metallica rocked!!!
Here's a video someone took (sadly from afar) for One and Bells. Check the pyros!!!!

I saw them on the 25th too - absolutely epic show! Was worried about James's voice but I reckon he pulled it off. Van Coke Kartel were good too! Wish I had bought general standing :/
PS: Marshall Music has those Black Fang picks ?

Saw them the second night in Cape Town. What an a-fking-mazing show. I must add that it was one of the first concerts I've been to where I haven't had a single complaint about ANYTHING organisation-wise: I'm sure there were hassles, but I sure didn't experience any. And the crowd where I was was just a joy. I was the annoying one: three separate times I managed to step/jump (didn't seem to land too hard) on the same guy's foot as I got too excited, but even he kept a cool head about it (I moved away after hit number three, probably should have done so earlier...)
ANYWAY. The point of this was to give the hugest thumbs up to Kirk for the strap he wore on his black Randy Rhodes: in big red letters it said "R R 1 9 8 2". I thought it was an awesome, understated (ie no-one but guitarists would spot it) tribute to a genius we lost far too early. Diss Kirk all you want for his wah and pentatonics, but I loved that.
Cleric
Absolutely amazing show, and I echo all the good things said above. But tell me that someone else noticed that Kirk has gotten a bit... sloppy? And relying on his Wah as a crutch WAY too much?
James is god-sized though. What a frontman!
flatfourfan
I reckon that they all (with the exception of Robert) have lost a bit over the years and as Lars said on the N24 interview, they don't really make mistakes, cause the songs are theirs and they can play them any way that they see fit....lol.
I did notice that Kirk was a tad sloppy, but I don't think that it took away anything from the show as a whole and I still personally think that James Hetfield is probably one of the best frontman...........period. (crowd interaction, ability with vocals and guitar is still right up there).
They deserve the huge fan base that they have as they have one HELL of a stage presence.
Cleric
Fully agreed. Didn't detract from the show one bit for me, just kinda interesting to actually see a guitarist lose a touch of his edge with age.

Since roughly 1984.
flatfourfan
the first person to say bring back Mustaine will be klapped.......
sharonzaz
show me another player that wrote so many riffs that ended up
being the ''i want to learn it'' riff for so many ppl.
he can get sloppy, he dont need to impress no one.
im sure the show was great, glad they kicked ass!
Hammeron
Bring back Mustaine.
No, hang on a minute, then no Megadeth.
{Shoot, imagine that. Metallica with the Ginger Winja, eish!}
Tokai-SA
No ones discussed what amps they were using, is that because the amps weren't visible on stage? ...the amps along with racks and racks of additional gear, cabs and mics were hidden off stage. ?

Nothing on stage besides the 4 of them, guitars and a drum kit.
Metallica are not slayer.lol.
Here's an older rig rundown on James and Kirk on youtube. Cant be too old as Kirk is already on Randall amps.

Stubbs
Is there going to be a DVD or soundboard recording (like for the Chili Peppers)?
Tokai-SA
I don't know what they've used on previous shows, but for this show they had H&K Tri-Amps, Mesa Boogies and Marshalls.
It's anyone’s guess what and when they used the different amps, as long as it sounded good then 'nothing else matters'. ?
