As a teenager at school I spent the majority of my time watching guitar videos, working with tabs and practicing my scales.
For about 2 years or so I was utterly obsessed with the guitar and my playing really showed.
And then I got lazy. I've been riding that wave of rapid improvement for the the last 6 years and feel like I haven't improved from a technical point of view.
I have actually lost a lot of my smoothness and speed as a result of my lazynes.
From practicing 6-7 hours a day in school I've been reduced to some noodles around and whatever I can get in at weekly band practices, gigs and studio time.
Even so I never tried to force it. When I was playing 6 or 7 hours a day I wasn't forcing myself. I was just motivated and inspired.
Since I have been away from all any guitars for almost 2 months (having not played at all) I have started to feel more inspired to improve my playing.
With no guitar in sight I find myself watching old tutorial videos and the like and feeling really excited to play.
I hope that this withdrawal can restore a passion for playing and improving.
