It looks like I may have to sit the April Competition out. >☹
The link to the photo will explain.
Warning: Graphic image of my right thumb from an injury on last Friday (12th April '13.)
Not for the squeamish. I mean......I don't like gory stuff and I can handle it....many a lady friend and dude friend have looked at them no problem. But I have a friend who faints at the sight of blood. So just in case any of you are like that.....I did not let the image open and only left the link. Enjoy!!! ? You might be able to see the series.

Basically......at work on Friday while helping 1st Unit download their carts, I got my thumb caught between a moving HEAVY work cart...maybe 250-300Kg's..... and the metal frame of a lumber rack on a 10T truck. Snapped my thumb
like a twig...... and cut/burst it almost all the way through. This really bites!! I almost shat my rods when I pulled my glove off and saw my thumb pointing at a bizarre angle to the right and upwards. The rest looked like minced meat! >☹ Sad thing is......the other guy I was helping, pulled the cart before I even had my hand situated. I had no idea the cart would move when it did. I reached in to grab it.... and....WHAMMO!!!
I was taken to the ER in an ambo and a plastic/reconstructive surgeon was called in. I was there from 4PM to 11PM. Doc got there around 9PM......long wait but the morphine helped! 8) He set the broken bone straight and used about 20 stitches......about 7
THROUGH my nail!!! :'( I have never felt pain like that before......I could not scream because my little girls were there, behind a curtain......and I could not move as he was working on it. The only good thing that came out of it...... is I got some good drugs (Oxy) to take home so I am keeping myself nice and mellow to get through this. I wish they'd given me a morphine "care package".......but they did not of course.
Oh well. Now to get on top of things again. Hopefully the thumb bone will fuse together and get strong again. He said I likely lost the artery on the left side but that the 2nd artery on the right side will keep the thumb alive......and there seems to be good blood pressure/supply at the thumb tip. He cannot say yet about the nerves and tendons. But he is cautiously optimistic. I can move the thumb slightly so the tendons might be okay. He did a basic nerve test...pricking....and I felt most of it. But all that is in God's hands. I'm confident.
The last few years have been hard. I injured my lower back at L3/4 in a work accident in 2006 (not my fault)...had 2 major spine fusion surgeries in 2007...then major hardware removal surgery in 2008 to get out the screws and rods etc. Then I injured my neck in 2010, also a work injury-walked into a beam in a badly lit/dark area in the basement of The Biltmore Hotel while filming.
I had a two level cervical fusion surgery at C5/6 and C6/7 with the herniated discs removed to take pressure off my spinal cord that was essentially causing paralysis in my hands. I also got a titanium plate in my throat area. That injury/surgery/recovery resulted in over two years on disability. I only
JUST got back to work in Jan this year........and now this happens. I reckon I am looking at at least 2-3 months off. Sucks!! >☹ Especially since going in the studio to play is going to be challenging. ? ?
I have no excuse for missing the March Comp. I really wanted to, had a killer idea nobody else used.....and feel I could have cleaned up! ? Well.......at least I have an excuse this time. ?
