Call me Scotty, I am from Pretoria and I have been playing for around 4 years. Mostly been experimenting with the blues!
Things I like to play (some with more success than others):
- Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, White Stripes, JJ Cale, Clapton, Cream, Cohen, Rolling Stones, Old School style blues like BB King, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf and anything you can think in that genre.
Things I try to play when I feel brave (aka Medium -> Longer term projects):
- Hendrix, Led Zep, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Lynyrd Skynyrd
Artists I like to listen to:
- All of the above ..., Wolfmother, Audioslave, Most of Jack White's projects, Iron Maiden, Frank Zappa, Johnny Fourie, Tallest Man on Earth, Joe Pass, The Who, The Band, Joe Bonamassa, Seasick Steve, Derek Trucks, Black Keys, Steve Winwood, Deep Purple, Cake, Link Wray, Dick Dale, The 5,6,7,8's, Dire Straits, Van Halen , Rage against the machine, ok I am going to stop now...
Local artists that I try and support when I get a chance (in no particular order):
- Raoul and Black Friday (new cd coming soon!), Vana (and the oh so serious), Hoot 'n Anny, Dan Patlansky, Jack Hammer, El Rebel, Albert Frost, Andra, Tidal Waves, Die See, Fuzigish... to name a few...
Local festivals I have attended:
- Oppikoppi (9 times), Splashy Fen (2 times), White Mountain, Woodstock, Strab
Local festivals I still want to attend:
- Retrofest, Otterlake, Ramfest, Afrika Burn, Up the creek, Mieliepop (can't believe I missed Uriah Heap in 2012) and many more...
Things that I will post in the forum at some point once I've checked the history for similar posts and got a feel for the whole business:
- How do you read the forum? Do you check the Unread Part on the Web, use RSS feeds (for everything or for particular sections?) and if so how do you keep up, there is so much going on...
- How does music store pricing really work, there is retail, and there seems to be discount that applies the second you walk into the store? I have not experienced this in any other stores...
- Open mic nights in Pretoria area, do they exist?
- Any volunteers to beg/borrow/steal/rent/lend me a Digitech Whammy 5 pedal AND/OR POG for a weekend.
- Maintenance and cleaning (which materials to use)
- Acoustic Amps vs. PA
