Identifying the Asian market RG's are quite difficult, but that there is a RG250. These are pretty uncommon in the US, hence the lack of info on the interwebz. They have trickled to some spots around the world though. The best chance to id it is by taking the neck off and looking at the stamp.

There is also a big chance that this a a Brazilian market RG250.

Sometimes they stamp the serial number under the neck,you would need to un- screw the neck off the body to check.

I woke up way too early this morning so did a bit of investigation. I wanted to be a cop...so ?

This is indeed a RG 250 B series, produced for the Brazilian market. .

It doesn't appear in any of the American, Japanese or European catalogs, so finding info on it is basically impossible. You can piece it together if you dig hard enough though and translate the Portugese info on it.

Basically though: TRS bridge, V6 pickups, Wizard II neck. It's basically a Korean spec guitar, but made in Japan.

There is actually a lot of debate regarding the manufacturing of these guitars. Some people reckon they were manufactured in Korea, but got MIJ necks. Other people reckon they were manufactured in Japan with Korean bodies and parts, but with MIJ necks.

I think it's probably the latter, but who knows ?.

How did you get this guitar if you don't mind me asking? It could shed some light on the matter?

What is going on with the bridge? It would seem as if the one saddle post is flaking or something, or is that just the photo?

I think that's pure speculation on someone's part. Knowing a little of the companies involved and something of the economics of guitars manufactured for the Southern Hemisphere, neither of these situations is likely, IMO. If it says MIJ on the guitar, it is most likely to have been made in Japan from Japanese parts.

Could be a chrome replacement saddle or just the pic.

Ah, come on Alan. The great Korean body/ Japanese neck conspiracy theory is right up there with JFK and Roswell! ?

From what I can gather, there are a lot of guys who took their older MIJ necks off only to discover a Korean body attached to it. This seems to have happened to quite a few RG470's, the theory goes, when they were still manufactured in Korea and they had issues sourcing necks for them. So Japan sent over a few necks, though these batches are supposedly pretty rare. It has to be said that this is wild speculation, though some of these sources are relatively credible on some of the more popular Ibanez forums (if that says anything ???). But there is no actual evidence for this claim.

It's not uncommon for an older RG to change owners a couple of times in its life, so it is quite possible that these instances were mod jobs.
Most of the info is anecdotal and from potentially dodgy sources. Then again, the Japanese guitar manufacturing process has been know to cause a few anomalies.

To the OP, I wouldn't worry too much though. Chances are that it's probably a garden variety, Brazilian market RG 250. If you like the way it plays, it shouldn't matter what's written on the headstock, or neck cavity in this case.

I bought it TOMS, but that was about 9-10 years ago. So the specifics escape me, it was the first new guitar I bought so remembering the exact model etc. didn't seem that important at the time. Hind sight and all that right?

And yes, for whatever reason the paint is flaking on the one saddle post. Absolutely no idea how/why.

Appreciate the help though, was looking into it because I'm trying to sell it and wanted to know exactly what it was I was selling so I don't end up over valuing the thing.
