I sat down a few weeks ago and finished off two more pedals - I think I have 60s fuzz covered now.
First up is the
Fuzzsilla, Matta's take on a low gain silicon fuzz face:
And then a Big Muff Pi. This is a crazy circuit once you start looking into it, it seems like over the years EHX have used every conceivable resistor and capacitor value. I built it to 1994 'Green Russian' specs because that's supposedly the bass-friendliest version, and it does have a nice, full bassy sound. I still think I'll end up adding a blend circuit, to let some clean sound through in parallel. This was done on perfboard, using Tagboard Effect's
layout. I can see why people obsess over the tone control - it's a really clever little knob, really sweeps the sound, instead of just a simple treble cut.
For my next trick, it's really time to set up a pedal board, now that I've got the basics covered for guitar (fuzz face, amp emulation/overdrive and digital delay) and bass (compression, fuzz , even more fuzz, and bass boost)
