Yeah that's the one.
Ha ha! That's really good! I just have to kill someone in Memphis then. It's quite a long way from here. Still, there's no compromising!
Tete? Memphis?I'm sure no-one will object to Tete...
Welcome back Squonk!
I've played in some bands with ridiculous names, particularly when we were all just staring out. "THE INSANE RADIATORS" should have been the first warning sign, but that morphed into "THE EPILEPTIC FORESKINS" a few months later. When we got our first regular paying gigs, at a place called The Screaming Chameleon (another bad name), the owner insisted we change our name, so we changed it to a more palatable "POWER FAILURE".
The first week we rocked up at the place and on the chalkboard outside in big bold letters were written "TONIGHT: Power Failure". Needless to say, nobody even bothered to come inside. The next week we changed our name to "FREE BEER" and the place was quite full - although most of them were pretty upset because of the false advertising on the chalkboard outside......
Another band I played in was called "Mr. Krinkle" - named after a Primus song. No club ever got the spelling right. We saw ourselves being punted as "MR. KRANKLE", "MR. SPRINKLE" and my all-time favourite at Sweeney Todd's in Braamfontein in '94 - "MR. SHRINKLE".
The Electric Petals were once punted as "The Electric Kettles" on a poster at the old Bayrischer Hoff in Lanseria. Had a good laugh at that one as well....Danny de Wet wasn't too impressed and went into a 5-minute rant explaining their name during their set.
