Picked this beauty up today
I know they dont get a lot of love, but it is beautifull instrument, very light, and sounds pretty clear and sharp

1967 500/01, in great condition, all original and always handled with care, it only needs a neck reset since the neck is a bit wobbly in the neck joint (which apparently is pretty normal for the type of glue they used back then) also need to replace the tone knobs and buy a reissue bridge base 9saddles are fine)

came with the original case

What is the going rate for a neck reset here in SA?

you got me going there for a minute ?
Neck reset price is very dependent on amount of work involved in getting the old join loose - if it is already, your price should be quite affordable.
Yeah great old bass with plenty "fab 4" mojo however they don't sound that great .... I have owned one .... Very light sound ...for my personal tastes ....but fabulous collectors item ... In fact iconic .. Great buy

As for neck reset 5 k was not too far out i was told about 3 - 4 k on that gibson lg 3 you saw but it was an estimate ..... And the issue is you don't want and inexperienced luthier doing the job ... So just the fact that you need to use a master craftsman drives the price up .....
Congrats! Nothing wrong with a Beetle bass - they have a particular sound (especially with flatwounds) that nothing else does as well. Not bad, just different.

+1. Speak to a few luthiers, but I'm sure you'll find prices are quite reasonable.

As already pointed out, there is no single "going rate". It depends on exactly what has to be done. Some guitars are assembled and then sprayed - which means you have to deal with the lacquer around the neck joint. Other guitars the body and neck are sprayed separately and then the guitar is assembled - so a good tech can remove the neck without damaging any of the finish. So... lots of variables.

Ask around, and take the guitar with you so the tech has a better idea of what is required.
