Questions: will i get POD farm for free when i register it?
Regardles, im not too fazed, so question 2:

Can i use this to record without podfarm ie; guitar rig--> cubase by tagging it as the sound card option?

I have searched the forums and read a lot of this particular sector.

Will do.

I did not get any software with this so I have only managed to get it to work with Guitar rig 5 so far... where I got lost in the whacky effects section for about 4 hours.
I will try get it to speak to Cubase tonight, via guitar rig somehow.

Once I do that I will let you know how it went and what I did to achieve success.
Perhaps making a thread on how to easily do this with pictures so that others can do it easier.

ya, i'm afraid that thread got lost in the mists of time, and the mysteries of MIDI. i've only just figured out MIDI and REAPER, which is actually a massive amount less complicated than i thought.

afaik, you can use it as a stand-alone interface, i use my kb37 that way (essentially the same thing, but with a bit of a small MIDI keyboard built in). it should be pretty much a simple procedure to get cubase to see your interface (once it's installed). i don't use cubase, so i can't help you there, but on reaper, you just choose the interface in preferences/settings.

I went to Canal walk Cape Union Mart to try spend a gift card - hard to do if you dont camp much.
There was a freelance spider guy there who insisted on putting them all over me and my wife, I enjoyed the Red Knee as it didnt have claws, so it stayed put for fear of falling off me.

What i didn't enjoy was the much larger ( i cant remember the name exactly) Gigantic King Kong Black Satan Tarantula From Hades, which could hold onto glass. That bugger immediately launched itself up my arm at 400kph, an alarming situation, as the guy was desperately trying to coral it down to arm level again, remarking that they never bite unless pissed off - which was exactly what he was doing and he looked concerned.

IMPORTANT QUESTION:

can I plug my amp into the Headphone out jack on the UX2 without burning everything out?
Its not for playing live or anything, i don't have monitors and i just want to fool around with it. Like you would plug in a pocket pod...
I have Phones for recording, its just for a bit of fun with the guitar rig's insane effects section.

I just don't want to damage anything.

in a word, NO. especially if you have a tube amp. if you have a solid state amp with a line-in jack, you probably won't have too much of a problem - just start off with the volume (input and output) way down low. most line-in inputs are designed to carry the output level of cd players, ipods, etc, i'm just not sure what would happen with the level of your ux2. so be careful. and wait for one of the guys with a more informed position on the situation to give you absolute clarity before doing anything at all...

Never ever connect anything to an output for which it was not designed. Headphone out for headphones only.
Other outputs for speakers of matching impedance. If you play by any other rules, you'll eventually break something.

+1. Have a look around the Line6 forums or post there for a specific answer on your hardware. You can also find the UX2 manual online at Line6 if you didn't get any documentation with your UX2.

Just some thoughts on outputs : For recording, I'd stick with a decent set of headphones or ideally, a quality PA - from my reading (and messing around with Line6 & NI stuff), the amp modeling/amp sim's sound a whole lot better when the sounds are reproduced by a full range speaker (E.g. PA or keyboard/acoustic amp). Also means that when you use stereo effects or record/mix in stereo you are setup for it.

At the moment, I've done the unthinkable and I''m sending the stereo out's on my NI hardware to the 5.1 surround system - just for fooling around (and the sound quality is infinitely better than the laptop's internal sound card for watching movies/series). Playing metallica riffs on a 5.1 system with the sub booming is a laugh, though not too informative re:tone ? - with your S/PDIF output you should be able to output a reasonable 5.1 signal to a surround sound system...Alas, my hardware doesn't have a S/PDIF output.

If I'm recording or setting up tones, I do plug in the headphones. I also, occasionally get to use a decent set of monitors to double check mixes on - hearing in the 'open' air is certainly different to headphones, especially when I'm doing stuff with the stereo signal (Panning harmonized guitars left/right, ping pong delays, widening the stereo signal with plugin's, etc...).

+1. your headphone out is not a line out. so connecting this output to a line-in will result in some damage somewhere along the way. (see? i told you to wait for someone with the facts... ?) according to the specs of the ux2 on line6, there are 2 line outs on the back of the unit, so maybe have a look at those, if you have something with a line input - not necessarily your amp. but, again, start with your volume levels, both input and output, low.

Im sorry it took so long to reply but, life, ya know.

I haven't recorded with it yet, but i will be tomorrow, geetar and bass and i will let you know how that turns out.
but i feel i should say something about Line 6 and their drivers.
Perhaps someone will search this site one day and see this , saving them a literal week of hair pulling. ( oh year - forget line 6 monkey, it is as its namesake, crap at installing drivers, get them from the line 6 site (( they say so themselves))

everything here is in my experience namley:

Hardware

UX2 toneport ( not the new one)
Asus N53s laptop running win7 64bit
nvidea GT540M 1Gig ( bizzarely relevant)
8gigs ram
bang & olufsen ICE power sound ( bizzarely not relevant)
USB 3.0 ( extremely relevant)

It took me a week to get this infernal device to speak to my computer without crashing all USB drivers completely so that i had to restart the machine just to get my mouse back.

Im going to save you a lot of reading and just get to the point of the matter: line 6 write crap drivers ( for windows) and i feel for them really , since it is windows; but i feel more acutely for me, the user.

Here is what i did to remedy the situation:

1. Every time you plug a new device into your USB port it installs a driver.....EVERY TIME.
That stick your mate gave you "insert name here - Unplugged in NYC with strippers" ? Drivers.
That external 5TB hard drive that you copied every episode of Vampire diaries for your wife so she would stay occupied while you try record on your new UX2?
yup , drivers.

1. GET RID OF ALL OF THESE - just do it , life wont end

Its OK it tells you what is OK to un-install and what not to, use common sense and get rid of everything, including what it says not to EXCEPT what is actually marked as a port.
Its ok, its not hard.

2. This should actually be 1.
Do not plug it into a USB 3 port - they are evil and fought with peril

3. this one is odd, after doing all of this and achieving nothing butt metal, i found somewhere in the archives of the line 6 user forum ( one that the openly mock because mods don't visit there, ever).
UPDATE YOUR GRAFIX CARD DRIVERS... yes I'm serious. it is hard to pinpoint exactly what combo of things listed here got it to work but the last thing major i did ( including un-installing every other USB driver known to N53S, was to do this and from then on it worked)

CAVEAT: do not , and i mean NEVER plug it into your USB 3 port, that would be the blue one if you look inside it, I have not found a remedy for this can of worms yet.

I will let you know how it records tomorrow, other than that , it sounds great with Guitar pro 5 so far i have only recorded me tapping on a short pedal cord while at work, sounded sexy.

We did not have time to record any of the songs we were working on , but i did record a quick sketch to remeber somethign i made up.
This should give you an idea of what a raw, unmixed export from cubse through GRP5 adn the UX2 sounds like.
