Soooo...where to from here teach?
After a quick re-read of the thread this morning - I didn't do Part II, for the same reason as Squonk, felt intimidated by the quality of input from others (not your comments, those made me rofl...again!) - shall I give that a bash or would you like to start with a clean slate?
Partial excerpt of Post #57 on Page 3 of this thread
Structure: tempo 130, 4/4, Key of D
2 bars of the 2nd chorus
8 bars of the bridge (D - D/C# - D/B - D/A)
8 bars solo (F#5-G5-F#5-G5-A5)x2
2 bars final chorus
Ok, so here we have part 2. This is an 8 bar example. I gave the last 2 bars of the chorus leading into 8 bar bridge, 8 bar solo and 2 bars of the final chorus.
Somewhat off topic, as you are using Guitar Rig, any chance of sharing a preset or two? I've put a little time into playing with it - but I feel my attempts are still rather ham-handed, especially for the rock tones. I have a bad habit of spinal tapping everything to 11. :?
Dude, you can start wherever you feel ready to. If you feel that you can do a better solo on the others before it, then go for it. Always push yourself towards excellence - though I haven't seen that from myself lately due to laziness, pffft.
As for Guitar Rig, yeah sure, I'll help. Just plug your guitar in first, and start clicking till a tone is acceptable. And don't forget to open the volume on your guitar either... I've found that this is why there is sometimes no sound (who would've known?). Now, once you've found acceptable, then you start tweaking - I usually add reverb and delay.
The reason I can't let you know about patches is because each guiatar and pickup system is different. If I want slight drive and prostitute cleanliness, I use the plexi. If I want "in your face", the mesa clone does that for me. If I want a general all round, I use the, uhm, crap.... forgot. Its the one that GR made up combining the best of each... I'll remember it later. Its black, if that helps. Now that one I pretty much use for everything, especially importing the GR3 settings as the later settings pretty much sounded like poo. When I open it I'll let you know, but thats the best I can do for now.
pssst: never fear anything, in music...

Thanks for bumping this thread! I've bookmarked it... Not 100% applicable to this months comp...so going to focus on the whacky whacks first... lol.
You may be pleasantly surprised, the new series will incorporate a lot with the upcoming comps.
