So, after the usual chaos of getting stuff finished in time, packing, leaving late, getting to the airport on time, booking in, losing our boarding passes (mea culpa), getting new ones, a slightly delayed flight (made up for by a tailwind), we arrived at Durban International.
Getting all our luggage intact lulled us into a false sense of security. Went to get our rental car and discovered my wife's license expired recently without her knowing about it, so they wouldn't let us have a car. Bugger.
So we get a taxi to the hotel. Then it turns out that the Tsogo Sun is the new name they are using online only or something, so we can't find our hotel until we look them up online in the taxi and call them, to be told that they are actually still the Garden Court hotel as far as signage goes.
Well, we're here - just limited to the hotel and surrounds ☹ at least until we can sort out a temp license on Monday (hopefully) and get a car. Had to extend our stay by another night and will have to try move our booking in Hluhluwe back a day and skip Howick falls on the way back...
I thought holidays were supposed to be stress relieving, not stress causing... ???

If you live in Cape Town you're not meant to go on holiday or travel. ?
Because, if you want Provence, if you want Italy, if you want San Diego or Mauritius, it's all there, in the Cape...the only thing Cape Town doesn't have is Johannesburg, why would anyone want Johannesburg. ?

So you're holidaying in my neck of the woods (more or less, i live in Vryheid which is 200km from Hluhluwe) give a shout if you find yourself stuck with something, the Zulu names can be intimidating, but not as much as the roads though. ?
But I'm sure you'll have a great time, there's a lot of interesting places for whatever you prefer culture, nature, history etc. Enjoy!

Thanks all.
Basically sorted now - we went to Metro this morning, who sent us to the testing station in Verulam (another taxi - but with a very helpful driver) where wifey applied for her new license and got a temp so long. So we'll get the car tomorrow and do the Chatsworth temple thing tomorrow, then Monday we'll go up to Hluhluwe. The worst is behind us...

That's the one ? The spousal unit's rather keen on architectural photography, and wants to capture it in all it's glory.

Ah I totally get it ? architecture student here... But we aren't allowed camera's ? Only Journals and pencils and the ability to draw really fast (which I've not yet mastered)
But while she's capturing glory you should definitely capture a bite to eat downstairs ? The food there is out of this world

i was born in Hluhluwe, we lived there for a while before going to St Lucia.
Dad was a game ranger; capturing Rhino and moving them to ...i cant remember, I think it was Zambia, it was the 70's.
Hluhluwe is amazing. I have a vivid memory of standing on top of a container that was releasing A black rhino adn watching from above as the THING came out all aggressive and mad. If i ever go back there i will lie upon the ground and roll to the 4 directions, like Geronimo (or as Indians do when returning to their birth place)
