Of course, there's more to it than that, but in terms of facility on the instrument Vai is the superior player. I leave it to the reader to imagine what the Eagles would sound like with Vai playing guitar.

For a stretch of 14 years the Eagles were not a going concern. But, for me, they're not a creative force anymore, they just reunite and tour for large sums of money. And good for them if they can make that work.

I didn't like The Eagles with Bernie and even less after Joe Walsh, but I have watched some of their Live DVD's of their numerous comeback tours and IMO Joe Walsh is the only fresh spark currently in the band.

In the land of cadavers, the man with a pulse in his pinky is King. Walsh had an unpredictable edge to him, especially in the time between him quitting the James Gang and joining the Eagles. Post Hotel California that edge was mostly notable by it's absence but "Life's Been Good" was a bit of a return to form. So I can imagine that he's the last live wire left in the band.

I see that the Eagles are hitting the road again, and Bernie Leadon will be on board.

im not sure where you got that chart from Bob, i have watched Bon jovi on Oprah a while back and the numbers were 130M for his sales.

MJ sold more than that number you had on that chart just for the thriller album alone.

Beatles overall sales should be around 1Bill or so...

Metallica stated about 100M round about the time the filmed Some kind of monster so they should be
over that number now.

Seeing as we are discussing Bon Jovi, does anyone have an opinion on whether it would be better for Tommy Emmanuel to be playing an Ibanez for the Parlotones or a Theremin for Justin Gaga?

See my comment about boney-M: There is a gap - sometimes very large - between publicity and verified sales. Barry White claimed 100 million, but there were no verifiable figures to support anywhere near that amount.

Anyway, I just trotted out those out to show that the game of saying "so-and-so sold X million and that shows they are loved by millions and deserve some respect" is a dodgy proposition, because you can usually find somebody else who you find banal at best or loathsome at worse who have sold similar quantities or more. So if I tried to "prove" that Paul Simon (who I think is one of the greatest songwriters ever) is great because look at all the records he's sold I'm in trouble because Britney Spears sold more - and I don't have anything against Britney Spears, but she doesn't strike me as being a major talent. I think Celine Dion should be banned by the United Nations as a weapon of mass destruction, but she's sold a heck of a lot of records. There's even an argument to be made that Dylan isn't anything special because he only just outsold the Spice Girls.

I won't put a big fight about the actual figures, but I will say that the fact that somebody sold X million records just means that they sold X million records, it's a measure of nothing but sales.

There's "estimated" and there's "audited". They're not very often the same thing.

The thing is that in some bands all the members are highly regarded and in the spotlight, like say The Beatles, Led Zep, Queen etc. If one of them weren't to make a show, there will still be 2 or 3 other guys in the band carrying the performance and the missing member (unless it's the vocalist) won't be that glaring in his absence. The rest of the band plus a capable fill-in should be enough to satisfy their fans.
But other bands only have maybe 1 or 2 high profile members, like for example U2 and Bon Jovi. Now if one of the background members of these bands can't make a show most fans won't be bothered much. If the stand-in performs the parts well enough, no problem. BUT if it's one of the high profile members it's another thing altogether. Without Richie it's Jon and a couple of other blokes and U2 without the Edge will be Bono and some other blokes.
It will still be a great show and you can be certain that the replacements will be wonderful, maybe even better than the original because they have the extra pressure of filling famous shoes and can't afford buggering up their opportunity. But I can certainly understand why some folks are feeling short changed by Richie not being there.

As funny as you're trying to be I just figured I should mention that Tommy Emmanuel does in fact own Ibanii, once read an article where he was talking about them, from what I can remember they were solid maple bodies and fully singlecoil equipped in a shape that you would not find in an Ibanez catalogue ?

So i took my goose to this show... not being a fan myself, i wasn't familiar with most of tracks.. .il try remain objective

Didn't realise old Jon played guitar so much
They played a lot of ballad type, folky sounding tracks, my Mrs says it's the new material... didn't like that at all
They had one or 3 rocking tracks... my Mrs says those are covers to get the party started and not their own tunes ???
They played at least 8 covers, rolling stones, Elvis etc
His voice held up well all things considered

He is quite a showman and the band was tight

Praytell what is the difference? I always understood that LTD was made by ESP. What do you mean by "actual LTD"?

Did anyone do a roll coll of the guitars he used at the gig? What I can remember:
- LTD Viper 301
- Fender Strat
- Fender Tele
- Black Gibson Les Paul
- Schecter (Tommy Lee Signature)
- Yamaha SG1802

And then there was Bobby Bandiera playing a Les Paul goldtop and Jon himself rocking (actually not quite) a LP goldtop in between his strumming the black Takamine acoustic.

Anything else?

ESP = Japan
LTD = Korea/China

Yeah that's about it, 2 different vipers and 2 different yammy sg

There was the 12 string but i couldn't make out a brand
