Bass Cube Price 2nd hand

The old piece of biltong who plays bass for us has finally decided to get rid of his elderly Laney head and speaker box and buy a Cube. This will make things a lot more comfortable for us when travelling. Climbing out of the tour bus like a polio affected chimpanzee doesn't inspire much in the way of customer confidence.

We have decided that he needs a second hand Roland Cube, probably around 60/80W.

Does anyone one know what we would be looking at paying for something like this?

I am also in the process of getting a Cube for the archtops. They quoted me R4500 cash for the 80W new (for guitar)....the 60W is no longer available. Secondhand the regular 60W go for around R3K. My guess is that the bass version would also be in that region or maybe a little less ?

The bass versions are higher wattage too - 60 or 120W versions. They're about the same size as the guitar amps as far as I'm aware.

Topic change -----Wow Vic - 80Watts!! I have found that my 40W has more power than I can use. My volume, on the clean channel is usually set at 9 o'clock - absolute max 11 o'clock, un-miked for pub gigs. That is using a Tele or Strat. My volume pots on the guitars are always wide open. An 80W Cube must be monstrous!!

I have got another amp planned but I am awaiting a fat commission payment that is being delayed >☹.

More information to follow in that regard - I think you'll like it!

Can't wait to see what amp you gonna get Chabs.... :? I bet it's something special. Post a few pics when it arrives OK ?

I would very much prefer a 40W but I need a 12" speaker for the archtop. And the nice thing about the 80 is that it simulates the highly regarded Roland Chorus as well...ideal for a jazzy tone. This amp will also take the Les Paul and Strat very well I believe.

Volume wise or size? They're still really compact for an amp with a 12". About (if not exactly) the same size as the 60 was.

Monstrous as far as sound goes! Whilst they are not perfect amps (I am not too happy with the reverb and some aspects of the clean tone) they are so versatile and do a great job all round. The light weight and compact shape are also great.

My Princeton is my idea of a tone monster and just lacks reverb and larger gonads.

I will be getting the 80 later today or tomorrow and will report on my experience with it....BUT WAIT Chabs....you're looking for a bass version ? Sorry for the hijack...

I picked up a Cube 80W XL (on recommendation from Keira) and it's really a great amp. I have a 15W too I use for around the house. The first time I actually played through one was at Giggsy's place. Don't have much experience with the bass variety apart from seeing some YouTube videos and hearing about it from friends, but it should be just as portable / versatile / indestructible as the others.

On whether or not I tested the volume by cranking it and pointing it at the neighbours, I plead innocent. ?

IMO I would skip the cube and buy a TC electronic BG250, brilliant tone and very flexible, much nicer tone than the cube IMO, plus you can run TCs amazing spectracomp on it, best bass compressor short of rack mounted stuff. There was one at Music connection for R5000 iirc, it weighs 16kg 250watt with a 15" driver, best small combo by a long shot.

Peavey used to make some nice bass combos back in the last century if I recall correctly. Good working equipment.

I was never mad about the Peavey bass amp sound, but they used to be very reliable. However, these days they don't seem as reliable as they once were.
