For Fender style passive tonestacks, I work the other way 'round, starting on full and pulling back to balance the frequencies. My theory is that with a passive stack, which is subtractive EQ, all controls up full is the closest to full frequency response, so that's where I want to start.

+1. They're always active EQs with boost and cut, plus a wider frequency response.
