stompie I have always wanted to know how you get the tone that Joe bonamassa has on his song "prisoner". The first time i heard that tone was on the theme song for a comedy series called Becker, and the solo in black velvet is similar.i know it's a strat tone, just can't nail it.i dunno how much of that sound comes from the fingers? Anybody know?
AlanRatcliffe Which part of the song? Beginning sounds like straight in to a Marshall and it sounds like he's using the edge of his pick to get an edgy, wiry (almost a Tele-like "squeak") type tone from some notes, while later he's using a fuzz of some type and the tone on the guitar rolled off (at first). But yeah - a lot of that is him. He's got a good touch. I particularly like his faster runs, where he tends to sound reminiscent of Mahavishnu era McLaughlin in his phrasing and accenting. = And songs like this are what elevate him above the "tumeni notes" thing he gets accused of.
Gearhead Funny this - the first time I saw him was on the Crossroads DVD and at the time I figured he got played off stage by Robert Randoph. Only when I started listening to his studio stuff did I find out I like him as a guitarist, a lot.
stompie Yes Alan that first bit.i read the solo is played on a Gibson les Paul and the rest on a strat. But it's that first southern blues sounding tone i like
Gearhead lapdawg wrote This one of a series - all quite interesting. Eish, full of himself. I dunno what he calls clean tone, does not sound very clean to my ears.

Dingwall Funnily enough i am growing off bonamassa and i have been a big fan for years. I was first taken by his playing in bloodline when he was 16 or 17. You should listen to their album if you get a chance, a real fire in his playing. I also think his playing would have taken a different shape if he carried on playing strats, i think he gave up strats to stop the constant srv comparisons! I guess it worked but i miss the strat days! Don't get me wrong i think he is a monster player!
stompie The strat part of prisoner sounds alot better then the les Paul part in my opinion, its got more emotion
