It was recorded last Saturday at a friend of mine's studio, this is the tail-end of a four hour jam session with some truly world class players!
The telepathy between the drummer and myself is off the chart, you can actually hear me screaming WOOHOOOO in the background a few times ?

on another note, i worked for an Israeli company at one stage (Comverse) and spent a lot of time in Tel Aviv as a result. Great place, spent much time playing backgammon on the beach front and walking up and down the beach ....ahhh memories....

Arjun, for sure! The drummer is a total mentalist.
I have played with some insane drummers in my life, and in terms of technique, he is on his own level!
And this is him in 'Stun' Mode. Wait till you hear him in 'Frappe' mode LOL!

Norman86, that was the nickname given to me when I arrived in Israel.
The guys that I started playing with were used to; A-Standard Issue Fusion Guys, B-Straight Up Blues Cats.
So all of a sudden I arrive, using a fretless guitar and an eBow to imitate an electric violin, doing all this Post-Di Meola Metric Juxtaposition, playing insane note grouping etc etc etc, I guess it was just SO different to what they were used to, their drummer(another EPIC player) nicknamed me Annunaki ?
Pretty awesome, I am one of those people that just accumulates tons of nicknames, and that is definitely one of the coolest!
And I think its fitting for the way that Quartet works together:
Its completely modern and current, BUT; it doesnt have ANY of that Generic Modern Fusion "we are intellectuals playing complex music" Staleness about it AT ALL.
Its totally vibrant and energetic and happy. And FUNKY! Very important factor....
And it has a slight looseness which is reminiscent of 70's Fusion, the Heyday of the genre....
It is Alien ?
The ONLY thing that taints that recording is that you can still hear the other guitarist in the background,
some kid with a Strat cranking out AWFUL generic re-heated blues lix through a solid state Marshall!
He was playing SO loud, it actually speaks volumes for Just HOW awesome the chemistry is between the Quartet that we managed to kinda White-Noise him out and still make some magic.
But yeah, wow, talk about an immature player! He could have learned SO much by just shutting up, fitting in, and LISTENING to what was going on around him, or better yet, putting the guitar down and getting some education.
But no! He opted for a giant, unsubtle wankfest! ARRRGGHHHH!!!!
You can hear him SPEWING re-heated Hendrix lines all over the drum solo!
But hey, we were all there once upon a time right?
When you've only been playing for a little while, and you're still too arrogant to realize how much you suck????
I remember that time well, I was 13. And one day something just went CLICK, and I realised "OMG I SUCK!"
It was totally debilitating, I couldn't play for months afterwards.
All of a sudden I realised JUST how HUGE the mountain was, and that in order to climb it I would need a LOT more than just pentatonics!
And thats when I got into Jazz, Avant-Garde, Fusion, Prog Rock, World....
We are facing a CHRONIC situation within the guitar world at the moment:
MUSICAL INBREEDING!
This is what happens when guitarists only listen to Other Guitarists, usually playing in the Same Style.
I cannot over-emphasize how unhealthy this is!
I recently entered that Myones/Duncan competition, and I was APPALLED by how generic 99% of the entries were!
It was UNREAL!
There were basically 3 categories:
Mindless Wanking with Bad Tone;
Melodic Metal harmonized in thirds;
Chordal Tapping.
And thats IT!
And it hit me like a ton of bricks! These guys are all listening to the SAME STUFF!
No WONDER Metal is in such a sorry state!
And this can be seen in ALL genre's, especially where The Guitar is concerned.
So, if you are a blues guy, the LAST THING you should be listening to is MORE blues!
You should be listening to Jazz.
If you are a jazz guy, the LAST THING you should be listening to is MORE jazz!
You should be listening to Fusion.
If you are a fusion guy, the LAST THING you should be listening to is MORE fusion!
You should be listening to World.
Etc etc etc etc....
Does anyone here know what I'm talking about when I say Musical Inbreeding????
