Best Festive Songs

I am not very partial to the whole Christmas jobby, Santa's and Reindeer and snow etc, especially since I am sitting in shorts having a lager instead of port or sherry to warm me up. And so we come to the christmas music (carols etc)! I just dont feel merry at all listening to these same tunes over and over again for the last Forty Years.

What songs could we insert and replace into the Salvation Army's reportoire?

Fairytale of New York - The Pogues
Slade - Merry Xmas everyone
John Lennon - Happy Xmas (War is Over)

There will be no room for Wham, Josh Groban, Westlife etc.

Bach's "Joy To The World" is a nice enough tune. If you search around on Youtube there's a nice clip of Bruce Cockburn doing a solo instrumental version of that. There's a tab about there in googleland somewhere as well. The piece is played in drop-D and is not that difficult. The most challenging part is getting in the harmonic that is pinched towards the end of the verse ... where the words would go "and heaven, and heaven and angels".. it's on the first "ven".

Cockburn provides a nice touch by wearing a little strap on his wrist with bells attached to it. That jingles in time with the alternating bass.

I know Korn did a cover of Jingle Bells... but i doubt it if their version will get u into the festive mood at all ?

LOL! Now that takes me right back to the days when I had to work for a certain organisation who was kind enough to supply me with brown clothes and boots...Kevin Bloody Wilson of course!

It gets worse than that I'm afraid...in my part of the world Joe Dolan has resurfaced in the malls.... ?...It's you it's you it's you... And that with global warming and all, end of days indeed!

Now, my choice for festive songs would be Blackmore's Night (Ritchie Blackmore's current folky band) Christmas Album. Traditional Christmas songs, but with guitar playing like only Blackmore can.
