Ok so after realising that guitar nuts are pretty cheap actually, I decided to have the plastic nut on my Jackson upgraded when its time for restringing.
So I saw a tusq nut at music mate and another shop has some bone nuts as well. Now, my guitar doesn't have a trem so I don't think a graphite nut is necessary.
Any recommendations as to which I should choose? I will probably have the shop's guitar tech install the nut and do a restring and setup.
EDIT: I just realized this is probably better suited for the Guitar setup and repair field...
you're probably right, it probably is. but then, every member of this forum is a guitar nut of some description, so you could, by rights, put it anywhere. bone versus tusq. me, i'd go tusq every time, simply because this is what i've done every time, and i've never had a problem. tusq is more consistent than bone - bone being a natural thang, and prone to inconsistencies. that said, nothing is ever perfect, and you may very well pick up a tusq nut that's been through naff qc. i also find tusq nuts offer great slippery-ness.
then again, some folks swear by bone. then again, um, again, some folks also swear by android.
