I advertised my bike for R45k... one of the responses asked if I'd accept R25k cash... I began the reply with F... then stopped myself and just left it there.
Spoke to a chap in the pub today and he mentioned a friend who makes a decent living from gumtree... offers you a pathetic price and the re-sells it again on gumtree for a good profit.
He sponges off the "needy". I've learned to just leave the ad running until someone comes along and appreciates what you're selling.
I don't get into the morality of it as long as nobody sticks a gun in my face. If I advertise something at R1000 and people want to offer me R50 for it then I can say no or, in the case of emails and such, just ignore them.
There are people on this forum who buy stuff from the classifieds and resell, at a marked up price, on gumtree. Nothing illegal or, really, dishonest about it. When I sell you a guitar I don't attach a condition that you may not resell for X months.
It's an old game. A mate of mine used to do it to top up his income. He'd scout the classifieds for used cars, look for what looked like good prices, buy, park, add a couple of grand on and then readvertise. Most of the time he sold at a profit. Good for him. He took the risk.
I can ask whatever price I want. People can offer what they want. I could add a note to the effect that "no offers under X will be considered", but then I've just telegraphed the price that I will go down to.
