Practice with iPad

Hi all, so I finally pulled the trigger on a guitar interface for my iPad: I got the Apogee Jam, and after a bit of a struggle I got it working pretty good with Garage Band. I've just bought and downloaded Amplitube but I've not had a chance to play with it since I'm at work (pesky jobs!). Couple of questions though: 1. For some reason I can't get a decent volume out of the iPad's internal speaker. For some reason my guitar through this thing and into Garage Band is quieter than when my iPad plays MP3s, is that usual or am I missing something? 2. If I increase the amp's volume in Garage Band it sounds like the iPad's internal speaker is distorting, but it sounds fine with equivalent virtual amp levels when using headphones, has anyone else found that? 3. If the volume issue in my first question is to be expected, I presume I can get some half-decent powered external speakers to play through: do any of you have a similar setup and what speakers would be recommended since I really don't want to be playing through the iPad with headphones on. 4. My bass player is now all interested: do any of you practice bass through an iPad? What recommendations would you make on the interface (would the Apogee Jam interface work for bass) and what software to use for bass? Thanks in advance for any replies/help you can offer.

You can also plug in via the USB using the Boss GT-10 and possible other multifx units.

I'm now trying to get hold of the Airturn pedal board or page turner, to change patches and on/off effects via bluetooth. I think the Airturn pedal board is like R3500 >☹ to order from Amazon! Trying to find something cheaper...
