Gretch was the cheaper alternative to say a gibson L5 but most changed the pups for gibson pafs .... Its an archtop ..... Dump that tone sucking bigsby / trem most gretch's have , restring with flatwounds , maybe if needed install a lower output neck pup . Roll back the tone control and you in the sweet jazz tone zone

however these days we blessed with so many descent cheaper jazz box's on the market that i think gretch has now lost the modern jazz market ,

Sure....it's just that Gretsch is so much associated with other genre...rockabilly, ol' time rock 'n roll,....the twangy stuff. (Duanne Eddy, and Co) ?

I wonder what pups the one above has ? That is a great sounding guitar.

Vic its not always the pups but the player , tech helps but i heard great ,fat ,warm sounding jazz from a tele with stock single coils ... Its players touch/technique and also how tone on guitar and amp are set ....

I have a 15 ' extension cab which when used with virtually any guitar makes it sound jazzy ...

So theres a list of factors but if you fiddle enough with them and play well you can play jazz on almost anything ..... ?

Definately so. But in this case all the right harmonics are there...the guitar sounds amazing.....yes the player is world class as we know, but not even he would get that sound on a castrol can guitar...he he...
I can't make out what amp he's using ?

The pups look like they are seymours? Think I can make out the writing on the bridge one? Could be something else though? Certainly not filtronics!
