I need to get some experience with the RC-30 seeing as I bought one more than a year ago and it is still in the box.

Nah! Bre-yani says I must use my kit.

I've tried out a ton of loopers and honestly I still think the best one is this:
It's hard to find though, been replaced by a newer model that doesn't have some of the clever features that drew me to this one.
You find them second hand occasionally but they're not cheap, however in my opinion they are hands down the most functional looper on the market for if you try to incorporate looping into your live act as a band, it's still really great for solo but all the modern features of things like the RC-300 with independent fx on tracks etc may have a slight advantage there.

Off topic...
i seriously want an expression pedal almost exactly like this part..

To be honest that volume control mechanism is why I prefer this one to the newer one, with the newer one you can attach an expression pedal, but the side roller was just such a functional and compact answer to controlling the volume.
Also if you check out Manson guitars you'll see that on a few of their older models they used to mount the tone and volume pots sideways like that as well - I always thought it was a good idea if you were trying to get a super low profile guitar going.

im not a fan of big clunky expression pedals.
i would much rather prefer something like that with a roller in a smaller "standard" size enclosure..

+1 ...Why there never was a RSA dealer I dont know...
Boomerang were the best in the 90's...
i've no doubt that they might still be...light years ahead of any major brand like Boss and digitech

Ok so yeah im still after the looper! and still cant decide. Will prob go into marshalls soon and do some tests.
My criteria for purchase is:
Microphone input (XLR preferably)
reverse fucntionality
autostart (only records when it recieves signal
some kind of basic quantize feature!
so based on that any further suggestions?
DrGonzo
Jam man 2 looks perfect! actually. anyone used it?
Norman86
the boss rc30 have an autostart feature.. you just have to set it for that!
also has xlr and reverse if im not mistaken!

I have one of the original jam man units, from 2005 and I love it.
It has a few short comings tho, and here they are:
1) You can only edit one layer at a time. Once you save the layer you've recorded, it becomes a part of the loop, and can not be manipulated individually.
2) Only tap tempo. This one is the biggie. It has only tap tempo, and not a dial that you can turn to set say 140bpm or whatever. This makes it hard to use with a drummer who plays to a click track, as my tap is a tiny bit out, the difference grows with each repetition. So it takes serious practice to be confident to use this thing live, with guys who have clicks in their earphones.

Hi also looking to start fiddling with looping.
How much do the BOSS RC50 and RC300 pedals go for?
Was at my local music store today and they didnt have them in stock, but can specially order them, but they did have 2 VOX pedals, namely
Vox Dynamic looper Pedal (R3000)
Vox Lil Looper (R2400)
Anyone ever try any of these guys before?
The immediate disadvantage which sprung up when researching them is that they only have 2 possible loops instead of the 3 of the BOSS range. Also, no on-board memory so you cant save anything. The no-saving doesnt bother me at all but I'm not sure about the 2 loops restriction. Loopers of the forum, how many loops do you guys generally use and would only having 2 be very restrictive to you?
Kalcium
Most looper pedals in fact only have 1 loop (RC-2, RC-3, simple jammans) but allow for layering on top of this, so you have 2 separately played things looping together on that 1 track but cannot start and stop them independently.
The boss RC-30 offers 2 loops and im sure so do some of the jammans (not too clued up on the jamman range...)
From what I can tell the boss RC-50 is no longer in production and has been replaced by the RC-300 which if you order from musiciansfriends is $500 plus shipping coming to about R6000 assuming no duties. A rough guess would put it at R7500 street in a shop here, maybe R9000 retail...
What I did read about the vox lil looper though is that each loop has to be stopped and started independently...so you can just push a button to change from 1 loop to the other, you have to stop the 1, and start the other...which I think is quite a hack...
A second hand RC-30 would probably be your best bet, depending on how many loops you really need. I saw one on gumtree for R2400 if im not mistaken...with 2 loops you can loop a verse chord progression on 1 and a chorus chord progression on the other, can do a lot with 2 loops i think
DrGonzo
is that true about the Lil Looper? what a shame?
I just found out about it and was like Viola! perfect - affordable and flexible with most the features i was looking for.
Pete_the_Pirate
Seems all the VOX pedals are a little bit harder to use than the BOSS ones. Of course, the BOSS RC300 is about twice the price so thats fair enough I guess...
I'm struggling to choose between the 2 VOX pedals I already mentioned.. I like the headphone output on the Lil Looper, but the Dynamic Looper has a reverse loop function which I think could be pretty awesome and seems to just offer a bit more control over the effects and stuff. Since I'm not going to be using this pedal in conjunction with any others mostly, thats what sold me on this.
Quite stoked ?
Shibbibilybob
Well, I think that with only a R600 price difference, I'd go for the dynamic looper.
