Sore index finger on picking hand ?????

OK, this is pretty embarrassing, never really heard of this problem I am having, so I hope some of you experienced guys can help me out!

I started playing guitar only recently (been playing 3-4 months now, with NO previous experience :-[ ). O yes, currently playing on an Epiphone AJ100 acoustic (with piezo pickups).

Anyway, on my fretting hand - the fingers are nice and calloused and I can play for hours with no issues wrt sore fingers, BUT my index finger on my picking hand gets sore. Mainly around the second knuckle - there where you hold the pick between your thumb and index finger.

This is very weird - I have tried picks ranging from .73 to 1mm thick and it still happens. I am using mainly Gatorgrip and Dunlop Grey picks.

Maybe I should pick with a more wrist action?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!

I think you're applying too much pressure with your thumb when you hold the plectrum.
IMO your picking hand technique should be 90% wrist, 9.9 % elbow, 0.1% fingers (if you must) for the pinch harmonics.
