Yup. He was fairly well-known as a Tele slinger in OZ before his acoustic stuff took off.

The most amazing thing is how Tommy , the guy from Oz can easily cope with this authentic 7/8 or 9/8 rhythm coming from Balkan ....simple amazing personality and guitarist !!!

I love the tele work in the first video but those acoustic jam sessions on the bus are more my cup of coffee.
Vlatko is a monster ??? and Eastern Europe is definitely not short on guitar virtuosos or amazing luthiers for that matter.
I worked with a guy from Slovakia for a few weeks who was a damn good guitarist and he introduced me to Ulf Wakenius and showed some amazing guitars made by Czech luthiers.
I had to play him some Johnny Fourie just to let him know that SA has produced some world class players too.

Thanks for showing interest in Balkan Rock music .
Yes , ex Yugoslavia has been never forbidden for R'n Roll , since never being part of East Block, but independent and free for all cultural influence from West and east .
That's why Yugoslavia has lots of fantastic guitarist and bands , since 1963 and onward ....

Advantage of Yugoslavia musicians is our musical heritage , Balkan probably have the most reach " etno" music, mixture between East, West , North and South . Transcribing such a fantastic music heritage in modern electric guitar arrangements is thus very effective .

I don't want to stole this post from OP, sorry for that, but lets skip 50 years of Yugoslavia Rock'n Roll and check these two young guitarists - Emir Hot and Muris Varajic .
They are different in style, but both are real guitar virtuoso ,not only just a shredders .
Both of them won a few international guitar contents , where Emir graduated at prestige London guitar institute... Lots of info on net, just google their names ..

Muris is something like a Balkan Guthrie Gowan, and Emir is absolutely unique , not so ultimate brilliant in technique as Muris , but more superb and brilliant on the musical side .
His album Sevdah Metal with Miki Terana and John West is one of the best albums I ever heard in my life....
It is amazing how those two famous musicians from the West (drummer and singer) find that Balkan "feeling" under Emir's influence ...
