As a wannabe famous oil painter - I wonder whether there's a market for paintings of specifically rock / metal guitarists, bassists - even voaclists ... To me some of these - and many I've seen, warrant a painting. But who buys paintings of men or women playing guitar? Perhaps commissioned portraits? Any thoughts?
I used to do oil painting ad in my class one of the ladies did an epic abstract style piece of Jimmy Page playing his LP with a violin bow. I think the piece was for someone else...
I think the key here is to do a few and show them to people who enjoyed rock and then they'll probably ask to buy them or if you'll do one for them ? my mom used to paint flowers while my dad used to do landscapes and scenery while my little sister paintil some real life pieces and I did heavily detailed pieces like a dead tree or a Pontiac GTO so basically anyone who came to the house would see and if they wanted a style of painting we could refer them to the one who did them best ?
What they said. ? It can definitely work, make one or two as the mood strikes you and see what happens. There's definitely a market for it, especially among guitar nuts and fans. I saw this really great Hendrix painting once, woud've bought it on the spot if I had the money. Do you have any place online where you showcase your work?
Just saw this now! Thanks for the input. Nothing to really show (as in noteworthy artist!) - I've sold about 10ish paintings to date - still lives / flowers - I have just completed a huge one of Converse tackies - need to fiddle with it a bit more, and then another one of 'Woestynrosies' (desert roses) may have buyer. Illustrate a bit when it's around (kiddies education). ? I have a site which I started as a blog:
http://kunsstudent.blogspot.com/ - the action is a bit slow but it's a start!
I also saw an awesome painting of Hendrix at an exhibition here in Cape Town - full face - I loved it. Maybe that's the one you saw? (Coynegsa) - mainly in black white and red....
Ok - thank you for the input - am going to have a think about this ... copyright may be a problem? not sure if I paint from existing shots? but guess if they are changed enough ...
