Bryan Adams??? I think he was ridiculous to start off with. Lots of talent but he sold out to bubblegum music. It is the sole reason why I forbid Radio Highveld to be played in my house... they seem to love Bryan Adams.
I am 45 and have never felt better, my mind is clear, modern music doesn't scare me, I think I am still cool.
Some of his earliest stuff was quite interesting, but, as you say, he decided to go for the big, radio-friendly hits instead. The nadir for me was that awful thing he did for the Robin Hood movie.
The warning signs for me are the words "classic" and "rock" in that order and with nothing but a space in between them. The moment people or stations start promising "classic rock" I start running for cover. OK... I might miss the 92387492847th replay of "Stairway To Heaven", but that's a chance I'm willing to take (and it wouldn't compensate for even 1/10 of the surrounding horror). I'm thinking of having a shelter dug in the back yard that will be "classic rock" proof. A "classic rock detector" would be a useful accessory for me - especially if it gave 10 minutes warning.
The only words that fill me with more dread are "solid gold" unless used in the context of jewellery or guitar fittings.
