Ibanez CM-5 Classic Metal
I picked up a non working CM-5 in TOMS Bargain Basement a couple of months ago. It was completely dead and after opening it I found out why. The chip was missing. Where can I get a replacement chip? I think it uses a JRC4558.
I got it for free with a bunch of other stuff I bought so I might as well try to get it working. I'll post a pic of the circuit board tomorrow.
You can get a 4558 from Yebo electronics, see:
. These aren't the JRC but they are electrically identical.
You say the chip is missing? Was it socketed or has someone de-soldered it from the PCB? If it's socketed I've got a 4558 floating around that you can try out before ordering one.
By the way there is a schematic available at:
this confirms that it uses a 4558 chip.
I'm pretty clueless when it comes to electronics, so I guess the best thing would be to out the pictures up. Here goes :
I hope makes more sense than my ramblings.
I'm obviously suffering from sleep deprivation. My grammar just went to hell there.
The photo is too small to see clearly but I don't see an IC socket on there anywhere (would be pretty unusual on a commercial product). How did the IC get removed? Seems pretty weird that someone went to the trouble of de-soldering it and then didn't replace it. Your best bet would be to get hold of an IC socket and the 4558 chip from Yebo, solder in the socket and then stick the chip in the socket. All up cost is under R10 for the parts plus about R20 shipping.
Did you ever come right with this pedal? If not and you are in Joburg I have a spare 4558 IC that you can try out if you like.
Haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm in Alberton. PM me your details and we can arrange something. ThankX !
Hey Joey, you ever get this pedal going? Keen to know if that chip worked.
Yes it did thanks, but the pedal still makes some weird noises. My brother was supposed to look at it again, but he's been very busy. I have to get him to check my Double Muff as well sometime. It just went dead a couple of months ago. Still has power but no sound. I figure it's a dry joint or something like that. I've been to busy with work and other stuff to get them sorted out.
