Anyone out there able to service my Revox B77 tape deck?

It needs a new switch fitting which I have bought from Revx.

Matta might be able to help you or search out Proteknik.

BTW, when last have you demagnitised the heads and cleaned the rollers? Them tape machines take a bit of looking after...

That's a flashback.
Back in the day Revox were regarded as the tape decks to get that no-one could realistically afford.

I've got a Revox that's been under the table in my studio for the last 20 years. It worked the last time I used it. I seem to remember the heads are good. It takes the big 10" reels, and the speeds are 7.5 and 15 ips. Any offers?

Yes Alan they do take some care and attention, but all my old studio work is on 10"NAB reels so I cant really let it go.

Shout if you don't come right - I should be able to sort something out. But it's been well over a decade since I even serviced a tape machine, let alone repaired one. Still, things like replacing switches are straightforward and universal, so I'd be willing to give it a bash.

I'd still recommend you transfer all your tape to digital ASAP once you have the machine up and running. Neither the tapes nor the deck itself are going to last forever...

Ther are still plenty spares around for Revox tape recorders, the B77 is the last one in the "77" series. I have a 45year old A77 and I use it sparingly as the heads are difficult if no longer at all available (i have the 4 track version)
I also have a TEAC 3440 this is a nice one for home recording the old style. With a of front equipment, mixer, dolby systems, compressors etc. this unit make fabulous warm sounding recordings. With simulsinc on all 4 channels on a 1/4" tape one can really play with this. However one needs to like the sound of these unites, something only mature guy's will recognise. Ofcourse digital stuff these days is good but sounds to clean sometime for me. mAny good recording studio's are still using TEAC, FOSTEX and a few other simultaneous with digital equipment. When you listen to both of them even the musicians prefer the tape recording above the digital recording.
