So after much speculation and teasing on the net Sony revealed the PS4 this morning in NYC

Not a lot of surprises, for once the internet speculation seems to be on point

Streaming games, new dualshock with a touch pad and integrated move, ability to play games over wifi on Vita or pc, sharing and social features

The PS4 is centered around a custom chip that contains eight x86-64 cores and an enhanced PC GPU graphics processor. Sony says the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) has been enhanced to allow for easier use of the GPU for general purpose computing (GPGPU), including physics simulation. The GPU contains a unified array of 18 compute units, which can reportedly collectively generate 1.84 Teraflops of processing power that Sony says will be applied to graphics and simulation tasks, or a mix of the two.
The new console is also equipped with 8GB of unified system memory using a GDDR5, giving the system 176 GB/second of bandwidth and reportedly providing a "further boost" to graphics performance.

The list of games doesn't exactly blow me away ... It will be interesting to see if they manage to avoid the mistakes they made with the PS3 launch

Looks great: a better considered architecture than the PS3 which should also prove easier to develop for, further integration with online services including game streaming etc.

Definitely on my list to consider, will be interested to see pricing.

I've never been a console owner (PC Gamer Master Race FTW) but the fact that they are back to using X86. I think this will make game development a fair bit easier than having to code for the powerful but difficult to use Cell Processor, as well as making ports of games to and from other platforms easier.

Cool games are cool, wherever they are. You'd think a "master race" would have figured that out by now. ?

In a perfect world, I'd have a R30k monster PC rig, and one of each console rigged up in a mini-cinema with an oompa-loompa manning the popcorn stand and Eva Green/Olivia Wilde clones coated in sugar-frosting on...uh...standby or something.

In the real world, where a single graphics card easily costs more than an entire console, I have to be a bit choosier ☹

Yeah exactly, at $999 for a single card...building a high-end gaming PC is an expensive exercise.

Not that anyone should really need that card right now. The one thing that I'm truly grateful for is that consoles have done a lot to slow down the progression of graphical requirements and the need to upgrade often. I can't see that beast of a card used to it's full potential in the next year or so, unless you want to do some serious graphics programming...

Bugger me if I can get used to the games on offer on consoles, though, I like my MOBA's and mouse and keyboard for FPSes. Expensive, but worth it ?

Thats a bit hectic... Im not nearly done with my PS3 yet. Ive never felt like Ive used it to its full potential.

I do hope that it will be as much of an upgrade over the ps3 as the ps3 was to the ps2.

It's not bad once you're accustomed to it, although I'll also always prefer mouse/keyboard for shooters. As a former DotA/LoL player, I used to like MOBAs until I realised that I generally can't stand online gamers ? In general, I play games on PC and console and even on my iPad, if it's fun. My PC is now quite dated, but I can still play newer stuff like X-Com and Dishonoured with decent performance/prettiness balance. I haven't played stuff like Battlefield 3 or Far Cry 3, as I feel those will work best on a PC.

One great thing about gaming on smart phones and tablets becoming so popular is that we have moved away from the gfx is everything phase and back to the point where games are fun again.

That said Killzone looks freakin awesome ?

You just need to find some people to play with ? Playing Dota2 with 4 other guys I know is hella fun. (Btw, if anyone wants beta keys I have about 17 in my Steam inventory)

Unfortunately, you can't choose the people you play against ? That said, I've had some great online fun with mates playing LoL (although my own somewhat elitist attitude got me in hot water ?).
