Truss rod on MIJ Tokai Love Rock?

VellaJ

Hey guys. Got my hands on a gorgeous honey-burst, flamed-maple Tokai a little while ago. It's awesome, but I think the action needs slight tweaking. I'm replacing the strings to see what that does first, but I've got the truss rod cover off for interest's sake.

I notice the truss rod nut appears to require a spanner or a socket for adjustment. Now every truss rod I've come across (admittedly, not many...) has needed an allen key to adjust it. On these guitars, does one use a spanner/socket, or do I need to get to the other end of the truss rod to adjust it?

Mine also has a nut there, I used a socket thing to turn it. Also, you'll find the other end of the truss rod quite difficult to reach ?

Yeah that's why I figured I'd ask before trying ? Thanks!

There are a number of different types of fastening systems used on truss rods. To give you an idea here is a truss rod wrench set from Stewmac.

I'm almost certain I've seen (+) nuts before, just can't remember on which guitar though.

I have one of these . . . .

I can't remember where I got it, or for what guitar I needed it, but once or twice lately, it sure has come in handy ?

The accompanying lighter does not adjust truss-rods btw, hehe - it's there for size comparison purposes . .. . :?

I've got something like that from Tokai for my truss rod.

Firstly, why are you thinking of adjusting the truss rod? Have you checked the bridge height and the nut slots?

I have the right adjuster if you want to meet up to borrow it?
