First guitar

I want to learn how to play the electric guitar. I would like to know what kind of guitar would work best for me? Also whether a Washburn is a good make and if a beginner washburn with a amp amd accessories for R2500 would be a good choice and investment? If not, does anyone have suggestions on what guitar would be best?

You can do better for that kinda money. Stay FAR away from Sanchez guitars. See the thread they linked to above.

At entry level though, you kinda do get what you pay for.
I'd stay well away from any guitar sold new at cash converters.
In general, there is nothing wrong with washburn guitars, but you would do well to properly check out the exact guitar you plan to buy.
If you can, take a friend who already plays.

Older D10 Washburns are great entry level guitars. A while back there was a Yamaha FG370 Electro/acoustic at Cash Crusader Northmead, for R1200. Really nice guitar, but I think it's sold.

I don't know what model it is but it is sold as a pakage deal in a box. I could find out by tomorrow afternoon, ps. I think I would like to play blues, jazz and a bit of rock.
