Please help identify this mandolin/banjo

Got in this mando/banjo from a client.
It was his father's,and he has since converted it to a banjo/ukelele. It is pretty old. . . .

The problems are evident, but being addressed. . ..
Does anyone know what make it is? Or, any info, . . . . .

The Green Oval obviously contained the logo, . . . anyone recongnise this . . .??

It has these stamps on the neck and body . . .

Best will be to do a Google images search. Start perhaps with pre WW11 banjos/ukes so that you can get an idea of the logos used way back. It's not a Gibson but probably also from the USA

I don't recognise it, but it's kinda far from my area of expertise. I would guess that the XXIIII denotes 1924.

BTW - I have heard these called banjolines, but I'm not sure if that is correct.

I have a Gibson banjolele here at the moment - a four string banjo/uke hybrid. Fixing it for a friend.

Yes you are correct, they are refered to as a banjolin or simply as a banjo mandolin.

A similar instrument is the octofone, but that is usually a more traditional wooden design..

To try identify yours, look at headstock shapes as well as the fact that the fingerboard stops at the edge of the skin - most of the banjolin designs I have seen extend the fingerboard onto the skin.

It is neither a banjolin or a banjoline (contradicted), but is plainly called a mandolin-banjo, or banjo-mandolin. (manjo)

Looking at the headstock with the filled holes - was it possible that this was originally a banjolele (uke style) that was converted to 8 string?

No manufacturer would drill machine head holes through their own logo, right?

Or were all eight machine heads shifted lower at some stage?

These are the original holes, and headstock layout . . ..

the other holes were mods done when the headstock wood fell apart . .

Great stuff - I'm learning here! Seems what I have here is a banjolin. Now to find tuners and a bridge. I'm guessing I can use a set of tenor banjo strings.

Very similar! ??? but not quite, hey, . . ?

But I'm thinking, because that green in the oval logo area matches the green on the inside of the instrument, it may have had a surface mounted logo, which has since come off . . . (revealing the green undercoat) !?

In my image search to find this manufacturer, I saw a few that had some kind of metal logo, glued/affixed to the headstock. I must go back and compare those pics ... ?
