I recently acquired a set of Beyerdynamik microphones and in the set was a Ribbon Vocal mic called the TG V90r.
I was very excited to try this mic out on some vocals and found it to be a little uninspiring.....very rounded sound but a bit muted....no good in my books for up front rock vocals.
Anyhoooo!!!.....Kept the mic in the kit as I knew something will come up to make it shine and the opportunity came up when I had to mic up a Tele through a Hot Rod Deluxe at a corporate gig....
Mic'ed up the amp and pushed up the fader on my Soundcraft Si Compact......and I almost had tears in my eyes....... ? ?
The mic'ed sound that came over the PA was nothing short of stunning....it was huge, warm and very articulate with lots of depth.....Unfortunately no clips...but the next time I get to use the mic I'll definitely record something as the result I got that time was nothing short of astounding...... ? ?
I have used both SM57's and Beta 56's microphones for a long time with amps and have had good results....the Beyer ribbon mic has definitely taken the live mic'ed amp sound into a new dimension for me....
We will be going into a studio soon to start some album work and the Beyer ribbon is going to be there to work some magic for us.....
