NGD: The perfect trade!

So, as most of you will know, I recently purchased an PRS SE 'One', which was in absolutely immaculate condition, and played like a dream, but I just couldn't settle on the sound. I finally decided I'd look to sell or trade it rather than keep it and swap out pickups (with the help of you good folk), and whilst scouring the classifieds of Gummail and Junktree, I spotted a potential trade. I contacted the seller, and offered him a deal, and we agreed to meet and check out each others offerings, and this was the result.....

Its a Cort 'Jimmy Triggs' TRG-1 hollow body.... Much more what I'm looking for in every respect!

And for those interested to know how its body size compares to a more normal Les Paul type, here's a pic of it next to my LTD EC-500.

And finally, just a shot of me in action with it earlier on in 'the studio'.... Excuse the beard and bulging belly!

Nice one dude... The only problem with a bulging belly is an Ovation guitar... It just duzzent work for me. :-[

+1 lol! Parker fly is the exact opposite. Hides the belly real well... ?

Thanks guys! Even before the belly arrived, the Ovations never sat well! Hehe!

Back to the guitar.... I am somewhat rather pleased with this little beaut, and on further investigation it appears it dates back from the mid 90's, and its suggested is one of the first actual guitar designs that Cort made under their own name. The story seems to go along the lines that Cort brought in some big names in the Luthierial field, including 'Jazzbox Hollowbody' legend Jimmy Triggs to design some guitars that they could truly sell as original ideas that were of a high quality. Jimmy Triggs designed 2 guitars... This one (the TRG-1) and a two pickup version, aptly named the TRG-2.

I have to say that I am truly loving everything about this guitar from its warm mellow tones to its 'teardrop' soundholes. The colour and finish are excellent, and it sits nicely, and feels well balanced. Somewhat surprising is its weight. Its so so light! When i first went to pick it up, it just felt like i'd lifted a padded gig bag up instead! Infact it weighs less than the case that came with it!

At this point I have to say a huge thanks to Alan for his advice and assistance with this particular guitar. He has been very patient with me whilst I quizzed his knowledgable mind! Thanks bud. I owe you a pint!

The other thing to mention is how well this guitar sounds through my Vox AC15! Its simply lovely! I never thought an amp could sound so good with just about anything plugged in, but this amp is truly showing its compatibility and versatility with all my guitars!

Great to see you got it and even better that you are so happy with it. I thought it would be a good fit for you - I have a luthier friend in the states who swears by his (and he builds some pretty epic solidbodies himself). As usual with the Corts, the stock electronics could be upgraded, but still wonderful value for money.

I must bring my Ric around to you sometime and show you what your Vox was made for. ? But yeah, the ACs work pretty well with just about any guitar that isn't too high an output.

When i was looking at this guitar, I was also thinking 'even if I have to replace the pup's, its still a beaut, but having had a good play on it over the past 18 hours or so, its perfectly fine the way it is! I just love the clean tones and warmth I'm getting out of it so much!

I'm truly feeling blessed with this guitar right now, and think its a keeper (like the LTD). Bliss!

And Alan, I'd love to hear a Ric through this Vox! It must be a good few years since I last heard a Ric being played?

If theres ever a week, or even a few days when you don't get a new guitar please take a family shot, its hard to keep track of what guitars are coming and going ?

To try and simplify things, with my usual inability to sell gear I've bought, even when offering them at decent prices, I pretty much still have everything (with the exception of the PRS I traded for this beaut).... But here's a quick recap.....

LTD EC-500 - First electric to join the fold, since moving out here 8 years ago, and only if I got the chance to get something exceptional, would it be leaving the fold.
Cort Triggs TRG-1 Hollow body - Traded for the PRS SE Korina One. Much more in line with my 'likes'. Again, a guitar that I will only consider parting with IF the opportunity arose for something particularly special.
Washburn Lyon series Strat - Bought cheap to use as a project guitar, but may find its way into the classifieds soon, as I just haven't had the time to do anything with it?! Nice little player, but needs a high E string fitting, and a decent setup (not to mention the paintjob redoing).
PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow - Great player and great sound. Partially traded my Boss GT-Pro for, and is a guitar I always wanted to get, but in Natural finish! This one is in Black finish, and I've always had a dislike for black guitars, and just can't gel with it as it doesn't inspire me due to its plain black finish. Put it up for sale with the view of using the money to buy the natural finish one that came up on Gumtree two days after getting this one, but got sidetracked, and bewitched by.....
Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet - Last one to enter the fold. And unless something drastic happens probably the last one for a while? May still get put in the classifieds if I don't manage to sell the PRS anytime soon, as I really need the cash for something else 'studio' related! Bought on a whim after a shockingly difficult week, but love it to bits! The more I play it, the more I like it. Currently choking a little in the mid fret areas, but I'm not going to adjust anything until I've fitted new strings, as I'm moving from 9's that are currently fitted to 11's. Hoping that alone will solve the choking issue?

EDIT: Oh, and my Yamaha CPX8M compass series acoustic - That's a keeper in itself! Love it to bits, and won't part with that, unless i was traded something special to replace it (think Lowden, Takamine 'Santa Fe', Tacoma chief etc... Not likely to happen!)!

Hope that gives a little more insight, and clears everything up?

I guess when you put it that way it really isn't that bad...I've been through quite a few guitars myself, and now that time has gone on I wish I could go back and retry the guitars I had...I don't think I kept some of them long enough to do them justice. I'd say if you're loving the gretsch try keep it, only sell if you really have to. Just thinking in the long run if you really want the gretsch and not the PRS quite as much but really need the money it may be a good idea to let the PRS go cheaply and take a hit rather than lose the guitar that you really want and end up wishing you still had it a couple years down the line. But to be honest I think gear will come and go with time and although there may be a guitar you wish you didn't sell, there'll be other gear that you're glad you ended up with and losing that guitar was just part of the journey to getting where you are...wish I still had my Cort though...
