So I decided that for my FIRST ever guitar mod, I would go totally bonkers on the wiring.
The guitar to go under the knife/saw/drill/soldering iron is a Casio MIDI guitar from the 80's. It's a real oddball, but I love it!
I added a Dimarzio multibucker (thanks Alan!) and a 5way super switch as well as three push-pull pots:
I shielded the cavities:
I took out the old midi electronics that didnt work, and replaced them with this:
I stripped the board of its connectors and wired it in there:
I added another pushpull pot that acts as a secondary tone control - pull it out to activate it.But there is a twist - it is bypassed using a mercury level switch. Tilt the guitar up or down to control the switch. Hold the neck horizontal and shake the guitar for awesome splutter effects. You can just make out the mercury switch in the photo above.
Here is a closeup of the mercury level switch:
The old MIDI control panel switches on and off the clean boost and controls its volume setting: (still need to do something with the two other switches - they are on-off-on DPDT)
The back plate that covered the midi stuff now looks like this:
This is many many many hours of wiring that still needs to be done:
I have also added a stereo battery sensing jack and a buckethead style stutter switch.
Phew! So many things to list and there is still much more to come. I have not even started to explain how the wiring is going to work, but think about having analogue programming memory banks of pickup selections that can be selected at will, hence all the switches.
There will also be more built in effects and possible piezo as well.
yes, I have bought and tried a Starr pickup switch and it sucked.
