How much does a drum kit like that cost? I bought a drums book, dvd, drumsticks and practice pad thingie from CNA. Hardly wonderful but it should help me learn the basics before I actually get a drum kit.

Its about R7,895.00 for a entry level Alesis DM5 Electronic Drum Kit and as far as i know that is about the cheapest one you can get..

that V-Beat thing?you can either get a drum or a guitar?looks kinda fun but i don't think it would help a guitarist or drummer in any way ?....but i don't think you talking about V-Beat,it's like R200 at Reggies?

Looking good! I'm jealous of the electronic kit - that's my next big purchase next year.

Just a few small points on the acoustic front:

- Try and centre your desk along a wall (I think the one opposite the window would be best if possible). Each speaker should ideally be the same distance from it's closest corner to make whatever reflections from the walls arrive back at the monitoring position at the same time.

- Ideally set up so the speakers fire down the long axis of the room. That way the reflections from the rear wall arrive back at the listening position later and at a lower level, which helps immensely with monitoring accuracy.

- Won't be an issue if you centre along a wall, but corners are very bad for acoustics - they boost the level of anything put in them by a factor of three. Good if you're trying to boost the level of your subs at a gig, but bad for noisy computers (or micing up instruments/amps).

- Try raise your speakers so the tweeters are at ear height when you sit (tweeters tend to be very directional).

Thanks for the advice Alan there are just a few issues regarding that…
The reason why the layout is like is because of where the bed is (usually there is a bed where the drums stand) and I have already mounted the monitor on the wall because I’m running out of desk space.
Please see layout below…

For corners, which do horrible things to the bass, either build corner bass traps or stand tube traps in the corners (which have the advantage of being non-permanent - ideal for a rented place or a "dual purpose" room like yours).

For the flutter off side walls, get a friend to slide a mirror along the wall at tweeter height until you can see the tweeter reflected in it from your seated mix position (your tweeters should ideally be at ear height). Where the mirror is, put a square of absorbent material - either acoustic foam or a rigid fibreglass panel covered with acoustically transparent material (speaker cloth, burlap, sackcloth, etc.).

Sorted...

BTW - re the bed: Sleeper couches make decent bass traps...

I'm getting boxes made for the speakers to stand on to lift them a bit. So many things to do and so little money :'(
