My wife got me this for our anniversary, after i saw it in a pawnshop and didnt buy it..
Its a Hondo (not II) LP copy, doing some research online, I'm venturing a guess that its a Hondo Les Paul Deluxe 740, though i can only find Hondo II pics.. Any help will be appreciated to ID and date this guitar.
After more investigation, I am assuming the guitar is from the 70's, not sure the exact year, maybe 1974, will have to see if there are markings in the cavities or neck pocket (hopefully).
Now i know many people frown upon Hondo's, but the guitar is awesome. Its got a nice weight to it, and sounds awesome! even though the jack is crackly.. will fix that too.
It is also nicely aged, some checking here n there, binding is nicely yellowed and checked as well. and some dings, but thats why it caught my eye! love it!
Here's how we found her:
Then i started stripping the guitar down a bit to get rid of those horrible knobs, and to replace one of the volume pots. Need to take the neck off (bolt on) and see whats what underneath.
I have ordered some parts for this guit (mostly black plastics, Gidson top hat knobs, a BWB pickguard etc), and if all goes well, this is what it will look like when done. Mockup was made with a virtual guitar builder found here -
