sepheritoh The sacret graveyard dance So shall they sleep. Untill one day they will rise on a christmas day. They will dance and rejoice. As they feed on the flesh of the ones who was slain in the battle for the kingdom of hell.
AlanRatcliffe First quick listen tells me it's up to your usual standards Seph, but I'll listen to it a few more times when I get the chance and comment in full later.
deanBailey I'm listening on laptop speakers at the moment, so I'll wait till I'm uncapped to give it a proper listen.
AlanRatcliffe Ok Listened to it a few times. Overall, great as usual, pretty good mix. The melody isn't as strong or apparent as some of your other work, but you might have been going for that. The only thing that really bugs me is the first note - I'd want all those instruments on the first note to heighten the impact. If you want a kind of loose feel to the first note, keep the percussive sounds (in this case the cymbal) on the beat and slur the other instruments behind it - that way you still get the maximum impact while getting a bit of a looser feel. Something else I would do is dry up some of the reverb on the strings - they carry most of the melody in this piece and they feel a little too far "back" in the mix because of the reverb. Conversely the acoustic guitar is a bit too upfront - not enough reverb and maybe 2 - 3dB too loud. The frequency response and percussiveness of an acoustic makes it stand out in a mix a lot more than you would expect. If it disappears into the mix too easily when you bring the level down, slap a compressor on at about 3:1 or 4:1 ratio to bring up the quieter parts a bit.
sepheritoh Thanks to the feedback I've updated the mix. I could not reduce the reverb on the strings, as it is built into the recording (EWQL library), but I think I achieved similar by cutting back on the synth with the sweep filter. That created other interesting problems and effects where sounds that previously blended into the background became more prominent due to the masking effect (or rather reversing of). I had to solve the first note problem by replacing the cymbal with a mallet hit instead of a stick hit, with a reduced amount of attack. Thanks Alan. This is real nice of you to give such detailed feedback. If I keep going I can sit all night playing around trying different subtle changes and marvell at the effect thereof!
