Haai almal, how is everyone?
I need some advice for the guitar sound in the Death Metal band I play in. Let me give you the run-down:
The guitarist has a strat copy with Dimarzio Super 2's, Marshall 100w Bass Head, 2X12" Cab, Digitech Death Metal, Boss Noise Supressor. [Set-up Works perfectly for our sound!]
He bought a new guitar, super strat with Floyd Rose, 25" scale, set neck. We moved the Dimarzio Super 2 into this guitar and it just doesn't cut it, the sound is fuzzy, more toppy and noisy when playing FAST stuff, we need absolute clarity with brutal tone when playing faster. [All the other components are still the same, just the guitar changed].
Could there be such a big difference in the two guitars' sound? Would a EQ setting be able to solve this?
Please any ideas for the type of sound we need would be appreciated. [Suffocation, Death, Nile]
Thanks,

I don't really know much about Tech Death, but what did the guitar sound like before you "upgraded" the p-ups?
Yes, changing guitars can change the sound a lot, even if the pickups are the same - the difference between a Strat trem and a FR alone can be a biggie.
While it's nice to have a sound that fits naturally into a mix, it's always possible to EQ a sound so it fits.

Strange that the same pickup in two similar guitars could have such a different sound. Sure you didn't cross some wires when reinstalling that pickup? ?
That tech death sound is as you know more in the amp than the guitar, you could do tech death with any humbucker in my (perhaps flawed) opinion.

Hey guys, thank you for the reply.
The set neck guitar is a very toppy sort of sound compared to the strat type, it must also be the type of wood. We put the Dimarzio Super 2 back in the "The Old Lady" as she is called and she is very VERY happy! [Us too, hehehe ?].
Then we installed a Seymour Duncan Invader in the set neck guitar and that seems to be better, the sound is hectic, the more bassey type pickup seems to work well in this beasty.
There are so many small aspects that can change the sound one is looking for, I can see why some opt for a very basic setup and just blast, the more goodies and gadgets one add's on just makes thing harder for me. I suppose one must just experiment and remember what the settings were.
Lekker,
