Just when I thought I was safe - GAS ATTACKS

Can honestly say that I've found myself GAS free for quite some time. Honestly, there was nothing that I really wanted or considered I was missing out by not owning. Until now.

So, those who know me will know that I am unashamedly a HUGE Slash/GnR fan. I'm also a big Joe Perry fan. A couple of years ago I very nearly picked up a Dave Johnson makeover '59 reissue, refinned and aged to look like the original Perry/Slash '59 Les Paul, but unfortunately missed getting it by a few minutes, as it was bought by someone else. I made peace with the fact that it was obviously not meant to be and moved on.

Well, here's where the GAS rears it's ugly head again. Look what is being released by the Gibson Custom shop today:

My feeling with these very meticulous reissues is that, if you have the money, it's probably best to buy one 2nd hand when they're still available new. I think there's a good chance they'll go up in value nicely over the years, but better if someone else takes the retail hit and you can get it at say, 20% less before it appreciates. Just my thought.

Be wreckless, you're not going to get another chance ? I am kicking myself for not buying a Rossington when they came out (not that I am a big LS fan, I just thought it was cool) and now they are waaay beyond my reach.

If thats what cures the GAS... Go for it!
If you can afford it and its not going to bankrupt you or such like, then do it! 8)

I have to say - while I'm not usually a relic fan, that guitar does have a certain something utterly GASworthy...

Singemonkey is right, wait a year or two for them to start popping up on Ebay and Elderly, etc.. and you'll save a bunch.

At today's exchange rate of R8.95 to the USD, here's how they compare:

Signed/Aged version: 4 x what I paid for my current R9,
Aged version: 3 x what I paid for my current R9,
VOS version: 2 x what I paid for my current R9.

Ok, so I was really lucky that I bought my current R9 when the rate was R6.80 to the USD, but still.

Anyone know how much I can get for 2 slightly grubby kids? I'll throw in the wife FOC. Otherwise it's win the lottery or flog ALL of my other gear.

Yeah gibson custom shop are turning out some awesome instruments .... Critics of gibson Say what you want .... But gibson custom shop are at a high point right now ..... Only last wk i played a gibson custom shop es 330 and can't remember when last i was so impressed ... And awesome finish .... So yes expensive but worth it ....if you have it .... As top end gibsons seem to hold their value .... Especially their archtop range

The Custom Shop instruments ARE awesome as you say....BUT (very) expensive for us so close to the south pole .....darn Rand

You'll be hard pressed to find a critic of Gibson who'd criticise their custom-shop instruments, except on retail price. And no. They don't hold their value. You can't sell a '59 reissue LP for the R45,000 you paid for it in the shop. But like most name-brand guitars they hold their 2nd hand prices. These limited editions though are a different matter and they appreciate freely.
