Q for US Fender gurus...

There is a '62 RI US Strat in the market with serial number staring with a V Q: Is this a customshop model or just a regular factory product with some '62 features ? Some advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Great guitar, Vic, pretty much my favourite Fender Vintage RI model.
I had the MIJ Fender version for many years.

I had mine re fretted with 6105s, left the 7.25" radius as is, I love that radius with a medium/high action.

All the best with it, it's a great guitar.

Thanks Lance...yip , I'm very excited to stroke it a bit. I will use this mainly for the older stuff from the late 50's and early 60's. What I like about the pups here is that they are relatively low output which should go well with a vintage AC30...and of course, the nitro finish and that colour ...! ?

OK so I got the guitar today ? after a looong wait over the weekend http://capetown-westerncape.gumtree.co.za/c-ViewAdLargeImage?AdId=448734922

Gave it a quick spin through the AC30....now this is the Strat sound that I like...no icy edges to the notes...even the bridge position sounds good to my ear.
These 57/62 pups are wonderful and I'm considering to replace the two '69 CS and Texas Special in my Customshop Strat with these.
The guitar has a nice vintage look to it...the colour is a bit less blue than on the pic above, the pickguard is mint-cream and the fingerboard is beautiful dark rosewood.... Got a nasty fright when I did not see any "Made in the USA"... ? but then quickly reminded myself this is a '62 Vintage reissue !

Also...no skunkstripe on the neck....again vintage correct. The serial number dates to a circa 2001 model...will have to confirm this later at the neck joint.

So overall I think this is a very nice Strat...possibly a keeper.

How are you getting on with the fingerboard radius? Also, does yours come with the 5- or the 3-way switch? IIRC, those came with the 5-way fitted, but also had a 3-way in the case so the vintage purists could swap them out.

Thanks Alan...I get along fine with the fb radius...the action is a tad higher than what I'm use to, so that maybe helps with bending, etc.... It has the 3-way switch in the case !...the 5-way is installed as you say....and guess what..the ashtray cover is also in the case !....really cool. As I said I'm really in love with the 57/62 pups...they afford that Strat tone that has eluded me for some time now. Do you know where I can get a set ?...the CS '69's although not bad sounding, are a tad bit too icy for my liking.

I have a 57 USA Reissue Strat.
New they are in the region of R22-25k depending on where you get them.
