Bob Katz'
Mastering Audio is a great book, but more about mastering than recording (although in discussing the problems mastering engineers face, you can pick up quite a bit about what
not to do). But not quite the right thing for the home studio engineer. ?
The books by
Paul White (Editor of Sound On Sound) seem pretty good, and I've seen them around in stores locally.
My publisher has quite a few, from the
Power! series books aimed at specific software like Sonar, Cubase and ProTools to books on recording technique, mic technique, production, mixing and mastering.
Full list here (but those are the retail prices, so you can usually get them cheaper).
Also from my publisher, Bobby Owinski's excellent
The Recording Engineer's Handbook and
The Mixing Engineer's Handbook are well worth getting for the more serious home recordist. There's a mastering one in the series too.
