I need advice please.
What would be the going rate for a USA strat 1990 in excellent condition including Fender moulded Hardcase in excellent condition.

New USA Standards go for around R13k - R15k or so (I paid R15k for mine last year), including the very snazzy SKB Fender-branded case. Buying in a local store, of course, online pretty much anything can happen.
I'd pay about R12k at most for a good condition Strat of that age, case included. If you're patient and wait for a good bargain, you can pick up USA Strats for R10k or close to it.

If I was selling I would try for R12k and settle for about R10k. Anything less than that would be hard to swallow, but it depends on how urgent the sale is.
If I was buying I'd hold out for something in the R8.5k to R9.5k region which will pop up sooner or later, unless the guitar is exactly what I am looking for or I play it and it blows me away - in which case I would go higher.

8.5 - 12K for a USA standard , depending on Condition. IMHO ?

I'd be very surprised if someone could get upwards of 10k for a 1990 strat in the current market.
7.5k-9k depending on condition.

I agree with you , I stand corrected.
12K you could snatch up a Delux if you are lucky ?

why let it go cheap? considering cash converters in fourways crossing has a 2006 for 30k... reckon you should be looking between 8 n 12k, depending on what's in the box, and the box itself, naturally. but, as always, ask as much as you can, without making it such that no-one comes a-knocking...

I agree: 7k-8.5k max.

Geez - that's silly considering how much they sell for new. I'd probably hang on until the market improves...

Stupid me, here I was thinking guitars are an investment with great resale value. ?
Oh boy, if only our wives and ex wives knew that we're bullshi**ing them every time we walk through the front door with that new guitar. ?

I dunno... I mean - an early '90s Strat is a well-made guitar, unlike most of the '70s to mid '80s guitars that are still collecting high prices. At some point, someone is going to realise that a guitar made in 1990 will officially be "vintage" in 2015 (which still boggles my mind - but then meeting adults who were born in the '90s freaks me out even more. I'm gettin' old ?).
So I figure they should start appreciating soon. Of course, they'll never see the gains that the Pre CBS Strat or golden era LP guitars did, but they should still start turning around sometime soon. If a '70s Strat can become valuable on age alone (something I never thought I'd see), the good late '80s, early '90s guitars have got to take off sometime...

i dunno so much hey. i've seen some old folk who back that up entirely, sure. and i've seen some young folk who are entirely too old for their age.

I agree that R8.5k is a very low price for a good condition USA Strat (unless it's a HW1 or Special or similar). Unless it's a massively urgent sale, I'd hang on to it for a while.

Thanks for all the inputs.
