Hi Klepper
A mic input has enough gain to boost the volume of a guitar plugged straight in, but there is usually a difference in something called impedance, which affects the sound quality - a mic is low impedance, where a guitar is a high impedance. Also the soundcards built in to a laptop are usually pretty low quality to begin with, which doesn't help. What you are looking for is a sound card that has an "instrument" input.
The Sweex sound card does not have an instrument input, only mic and line inputs. It also uses a C-Media chip, which is the same type of low quality chip you find in computer motherboards. So chances are you won't get any improvement over what you already have in the laptop.
There are a few inexpensive products designed specifically to input a guitar to a computer. Take a look at the
Behringer GUITAR LINK UCG102.
