Chris-Mason well you may have noticed I am on the market for lapsteel guitars and am swopping some of my current guitars if there are any takers. Due to a previous injury, where I cut the nerves in my hand I have found it problematic and am changing to lapsteel. Pretty cool instruments although somewhat limiting but fun nonetheless. Will be starting my first build soon and will post pics. Finished making the bridge today.the challenge for this is to make it as cheaply as possible using recycled materials not that I am going green just fun doing something different. Found a large piece of African Mahogany, which can be used to make 3 lapsteels, from a building recycle site cost R82,00. Happy new Year to all, holiday ends on Monday and back to the grindstone. Saddle and Nut
Chocklit_Thunda Geeze that's unfortunately to hear about your hand! Really sorry mate... At least you aren't giving up! ? If you don't mind me asking, what site are you using for wood? I paid about 550 for a piece of African Mahogany big enough for 3 guitars.... Somehow 82 sounds way better ?
Chris-Mason Wood bought was a piece of African mahogany measuring 3 meters by 220mm x 40 mm a bargain at R82. saddle and nut
studmissile Sorry about your hand too! I saw a very cheap (R300 I think) lap steel at cash crusaders Boksburg, (But a very beginners, no name brand with notes labelled on the fret board). Came in nice old vintagy wooden case though. (about a week ago) Haven't seen one in quite a while unfortunately but will keep a lookout.
Chocklit_Thunda what website did you use ??? ??? ??? I paid 550 for a 3m x 150mm x 38 mm and still had it planed down to 35mm I need that site because half a G is loads of cash
Norman86 by building recycle site, i think he means an actual real life site, not website, where you can buy the recycled materials!
Bob-Dubery Your Saddle and Nutness, Why not just raise the action on some of your guitars? Jerry Douglas is sometimes seen playing a Strat (or strat clone) with a big fat nut and raised bridge. If it works for him.... Unless, of course, you want the square neck.
Psean Norman86 wrote by building recycle site, i think he means an actual real life site, not website, where you can buy the recycled materials! Haha ? Funny how much technology has influenced our vocabulary.
Chocklit_Thunda Damn kids of today (me)... >☹ Everything with them (me) is the iPads and interwebs and tweeter and Facepaint ? Yeah technology has really changed the way we work ? I wont lie when I see the word site I've usually already typed "www." in the browser ? thanks for clearing that up
