I'm pretty damned skeptical about covers of classics, especially about songs like "Stairway" which, to me, falls in the "never ever mess with or alter under any circumstances, ever." category (see Mary J. Blige's cover of "Stairway" for supporting evidence, which was so horrible that even Steve Vai on lead guitar couldn't save it) but damn, they killed it. Loved the cover and the added choir and everything. Is it just me or did Mr. Plant get a little teary-eyed there?

I must say this is the best cover of this song I've ever heard, and I do beleive that Mr Plant did shed a tear.

well, waddayagonnado? you go 'n write - and play and perform the heck outta - an absolute classic of a song. then you see some folks come on stage and put just about everything they have into performing it in tribute, not only to the song, but also to the writers and performers. me? i'd shed a tear too.
hell's bells. an all-round heckuva thing.

Some good music on the evening. I enjoyed the covers/tributes by Foo Fighters and Lenny Kravits too. the Buddy Guy tributes were really cool as well. I think everyone there had an awesome evening's entertainment. Watch Jack Black's introduction to the Zepp tribute. Pretty funny stuff

Wow wow wow. Thanks so much for posting that. The choir with the Clockwork Bonzo hats was pretty damn cool too.
I went with some trepidation to watch the MJBlige version and I must admit that after the build-up I was expecting it to be worse. I mean, they kept it fairly true to the original, structure-wise, and I guess you can't really expect a whatever-she-is (RnB?) singer not to sing like she normally sings. But Jeepers H Crackers it just reinforces how much I hate that music. All that wailing crap. Awful. So supposedly impressive and yet so horrid. Especially (American Idols version) when you have Steve Vai and Orianthi soloing: seriously?!? Get two "star" guitarists and then pretend you got shot while they're playing the solo?
