Band name change

Hi guys. Happy New Year and all that jazz!

The band has suggested we change the Tamla Kahn band name.

What are your feelings on the name?
Is it difficult to spell?
Does it sound too Eastern?
Is it hard to remember?

Would love to have your opinions.

I dig it... And you've got a following who know you by that band name right? So why fix it if it aint broke? ?
It does sound a bit eastern but as for hard to spell... Nowhere close ? I've seen names 10 times harder.... Some of them belong to family ?

I think you should keep the name as is

I actually think your band name is great. It sounds strong, suits the genre etc. I don't find it difficult to remember, personally. What prompted the decision for a change? The points you listed?

I don't think the reasons are any of the ones you list, I think it is more the name is .......YOU!! get it? Maybe they would prefer a name that does not represent the "leader of the band" ..... since the "band" (meaning the other members) suggested it. Am I on the wrong station?

BTW. I like the name ....

One of the problems is the confusion between my name and the bands. I have agreed to change my facebook name to Hammeron McMahon.
And you are quite right aubs, it was the other members that suggested the name in the first place.

Naa, I'd keep it, it's unique and has a nice ring to it. Besides, it's hard work to get a new name out there! You've done the hard work, why go and do it all again?

Old fossils like me may find that the current name sends a confusing signal. I'm always reminded of Tamla Motown. I loved Motown, but it's nothing like you guys do.

Also the band is really named after one of the members, which may prick pride.

It doesn't seem like a very metal name to me, but that may be because I remember Tamla Motown.

It's a great name. Much better than the usual banal metal band names in South Africa.

Strange that the other band members would suggest a name change now. Havn't you guys been together for quite awhile?

Or you could go the 60's and 70's route ..... you know like CSN and Y ...... so "Khan, Potgieter and Prinsloo", and everyone will be happy !!!

I agree Bob, but I hardly think that the majority of "kids" under the age of 25 will remember or even know of Motown, except of course, you, myself and maybe two other guys on this forum ..... ?

I also thought of Motown, but like the name anyway - as Danny says, it sets you apart from the rank and file. Far, far better than all the usual dreck, IMO. Kahn (or more correctly Khan) may be Eastern, but the Khans were seriously badass (Genghis Khan, Kublai Kahn, et. al.).

And yes, it kind of implies that the band is all about you, but in reality, if you get signed by a label, chances are it is going to be all about you as far as they are concerned anyway. Easier to hang a marketing campaign around a pretty young woman than the usual pug-ugly metal band. ?

Yup sounds like the folks in the band are getting a touch jealous that the name is your name. Perhaps they're starting to feel like the3rd wheels. Sounds like normal band dynamics. Personally i think it's a good name.

I can see how they may feel it's all about you though

Do not change it. It stick on me the first time I heard it.

Changing your name is almost "starting over" in terms of marketing.
Its a great name, and its not worth it.

But then if there is no way out, now or never - don't wait longer.

I say leave it.
You have brand already and there are certainly much weirder names which are harder to spell and which imply all sorts of things that have nothing to do with their music or the genre.

Besides ... coming up with good names is much, much harder than one usually assumes.
And a new name will come with its own set of issues.
