Got myself in it again...

Desperate times.. ?..a bunch of us at work got bullied into doing a comedy song at a work function again tomorrow.
The result of a thing we did last year that went down well, now they want us to do something again.

Lots of people will attend, including some big shots in the organization. Our "band" will be five acoustic guitars and a female vocalist. No drums, not even a click track. Just us and a couple of mikes.

The thing is this: everyone has been so busy that there was no time to practice, we'll only have tonight to practice, and that will be the first time that all of us get together. No one has ever heard our vocalist sing, but she says she can sing. So far so good...

Everyone is hungover from a party last night, and one guitarist and our vocalist went to bed at 4:30 this morning and began a full day's work at 8:00 again.

I suspect that I'm the one being considered as the most experienced player...and I really suck.

I thought we should do a parody of Brian Adam's Summer of 69 - we've got some lyrics that are quite good, it fits in with the song and applies to the workplace. The chords are easy enough. I thought that we should slow the whole thing down from the original plus minus 140 BPM and do something similar as BA does on his MTV unplugged version of the song.

I'm concerned about everyone's ability to stick to the timing and rythm of this song though.

What do you guys think? Am I underestimating this song? Please advise!

My only advise (being put into similar situations before) is that sometimes "LESS IS MORE". If 1 or 2 of the guys struggle to keep up rather ask them to not play or to emulate drums or do something else. It's hard, but if you are most experienced you'll have to make that decision.

So we practiced tonight, and it actuall went very well! I think we nailed the song, and our vocalist really can sing! So I'm a lot more optimistic about tomorrow.... 8)

Phew....what a relief! So we did our version of Summer of 69, and it all went well 8) Fortunately the guys all played in time, and the right chords, and our vocalist was excellent. Audience enjoyed the lyrics.
