You won't necessarily save huge money going that route and you won't get anything quickly. You'll be waiting months (at least, possibly over a year from placing your order).
I'm not saying that there's anything unusual or wrong about this, just that's the way it is. You might save money if you get a Smoothtalker, but then you have to like a Smoothtalker. Again, I'm not saying those are bad, but a Martin D28 they are not.
"Mass produced" is a vague term. Martins are definitely built on assembly lines (except maybe the limited edition guitars) but they're still pretty good, some would argue the best factory made acoustic guitars available. Taylor, Breedlove and Larrivee are all made on assembly lines to some degree. Larrivee, for example, use a lot of CNC and assembly lines, but they fit the neck by hand.
If you want, right now, a guitar from a small, low-volume shop then go to HFG and check out the Webbers (if he's got any left, that's a line that's doing well for him).
